I'm just reaching out because I am having a very hard time not wanting to completely stray from the diet right now. I have/had food poisoning and am just getting my appetite back, but can only really tolerate rice and eggs, but am craving LIKE CRAZY other stuff, like bread, yogurt, fruit and cookies. I have all these things in the house because of our kids.
I have been sticking so close to the diet for it seems like so long now (almost a year!) and I think this food poisoning has really pushed me to the edge. Yet I feel like I CANNOT afford to stray now, after all this investment of time, energy, money, herbs.
My urge has been going up and down. I seem to have a little bit longer, than a little bit longer periods of calmness, then it goes up again for a while. Has this been others' experience? I think I remember this from first time around in treatment, but I've been getting discouraged after a quiet period when it goes up again and the cycle keeps repeating. And any suggestions on recovering from this bug with food would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hey! YOu are at a VERY crucial point - so hold fast to the diet. Remember it is either them or you and you have to win! This craving is passing- your body might be a little weakened by the bug and so maybe these cravings are cropping up- well they come and go anyway especially when we are at crux in treatment. Maybe instead of a full on dense meal you could make some soup- soup is very easy to digest and soothing to the tummy. you can throw rice, potatoes and veggies in there- whatever you tolerate and maybe some chicken or turkey? To fight off the sugar cravings you need some protein! At the year point I was bouncing back and forth CONSTANTLY in my progress and I still am for the most part although for the time being I think I am moving into a period of "better" in this situation. the improvemtn is miniscule in the moment. literally inching forward by the millimeter until a great distance has been acheived in hindsight. So sorry that you had to deal with food poisoning. I had this last year while traveling and it was aweful! I just made sure that what I ate- like my veggies was cooked or steamed as raw was too much for me - made too much gas etc... feel better soonhealing vibrations to you and your tummy!Mary

Matia just posted something on Sugar cravings a few weeks ago that talks about cravings coming back up at crucial points in treatment, after you have been in it for a while! I would say this is a good sign, you are in a crucial spot. I am sorry you had food poisoning, that is the worst feeling.
Food Poisoning
You could try the homeopathic remedy Arsenicum Album for the food poisoning. It is supposed to be good to use for that.

We all eat the same
Hey there, I know how you feel, I have two small children and until they too came down with IC, I had all those kid fun foods. Now that they also have IC, I don't have ANY of that stuff in my house, so it makes it much easier for me to stay away from it. I have adopted a policy that if it didn't come from nature, God, etc, we don't eat it. It is VERY hard to do this, but if you stick with it, your kids will eat. Don't be afraid of starvation... I have starved my kids out and they got so hungry they almost ate the seeds out of an apple. Include your children (if appropriate) in making food with you. We often make "ranch" out of the Fage Yogurt, salt, lemon juice, dill and they LOVE it with carrots. I also give them lots of fruit, nuts, hummus, etc. Take the time to make stuff with them... We also make "apple dippers" with sliced up apples, and then almond butter mixed with a bit of kefir and agave. They love it. You are doing them and yourself a favor, even if it doesn't seem like it in the short run.
