Hi everyone,

I've been too afraid to try some of the items on list 2, and also got confused about my options in wholefoods. For rice cakes, i bought lunderberg? brown rice cakes, although i read some of you mentioned "plain", just wondering if that's the same?? Also, confused what kind of barley, rice pasta and wheat pasta do you buy? There is a vita-spelt brand whole grain pasta in the gluten free section, is this the one? there is spelt and kamut pastas too...soo confused!

Yes, Lundberg rice cakes are a good brand. They have many flavors; get the plain or plain w/ sea salt b/c the other flavors have ingredients we can't have.
For pasta, Vita-Spelt is a good brand.  Unless you have a problem with grains, you should be fine with kamut or spelt pasta.  Only do wheat when Matia gives you the ok.  Try for whole grain (healthier) -- b/c i.e. I know Vita-Spelt has both regular spelt & whole-grain spelt.
Congrats & happy eating.  If you're allowed tomatoes, you can make your own sauce with Bionature jarred tomato paste, plus herbs/spices.  Add water to thin, or milk/cream if allowed.  Or if you're further along, Amy's pasta sauce makes a pretty plain one, think it's Family Marinara or Tomato Basil, ok ingredients for those who can do extra virgin olive oil -- I'm not crazy about the high sodium, though that goes for all jarred sauces I think.

I can't wait to try the spelt pasta. I can't have tomatoes yet but i like a plain pasta with butter just as much :) Re: the rice cakes though, i went to wholefoods again and didn't see the plain version, just brown rice. I'll check another store, maybe they are out of it.

The issue isn't brown/white, it's what else is in it.  If it's just brown rice or brown rice & salt, you're fine.

yes, the brown rice label threw me off, thought that was a flavor too :) tx! You can tell i didn't eat much of those prior, but hey, that's exciting for me now. Thanks again!
