the dairy cows are safe

-at least from me!  Does anyone know if, how and when we can introduce cows milk back onto our diets? I have such an extreme reaction now if i have even a couple of spoonfuls of (organic) yogurt or any cows milk products that I'm wondering if I'll ever tolerate it.  I think the truth is that I've a way to go before my body's balanced enough to deal with it without having a mucous overload but after seeing a nutritionalist on my doctors advice, her concern about the lack of calcium in my diet made me think i should be taking calcium supplements.  In the UK they want you to have dairy for breakfast lunch and dinner - I think she said at the very least a pint a day or 700mg.

Penny for your thoughts?

I try to stay away from dairy.  There are other ways of getting calcium into the diet.  I'm not sure dairy is a very good source as the calcium isn't as absorbable compared to greens.  If you tolerate kale and collard greens, try eating those.  Almonds are also high in calcium.  My bladder doesn't tolerate any of these foods, and I have been diagnosed with osteoporosis.  It's a dilemma.

that really is a dilemma.
I do have plenty of greens and occasionaly almonds but the nutritionalist insisted that wasn't enough..

Goats milk is more digestable.  I used to drink it.  Getting calcium in the diet is only part of it.  I think you have to do weight bearing exercises and resistance training to build the muscle and bone.  I'm going to look into it as I have to do something before too long.

I'd love to try raw milk, haven't tried to source it here in the Uk as yet.  Perhaps any UK Icers know where to purchase?
I'd probably opt for goats first - it's funny cos I often joke that I'd like a mad goat as a pet for free milk - the idea may become a reality one day, that is if I'm allowed...My other half was telling me about some people who were refused to drink milk from their own 2 cows - the governement made up some excuse about it constituting as a dairy farm.  I'm so thankful for this forum opening my eyes into the whole food industry, governments and well  - capitalism.  I wish no longer to be a hamster on a wheel - soon as I'm well enough, Im going native! ;)

And I'm with you clueless on the weight/resistance training..
Following on from the raw milk conversation - does anyone know whether it's recommended during pregnancy?  In the UK you'd probably be shot (ok severely reprimanded) if you were seen to be drinking unpasturised milk products.  I'm thinking ahead on this question!

I've actually found a farm that sells raw cows milk from jersey cows at headley down (about 40mins drive from me.)  They also have farmers markets once a month even closer where you can buy it.  It's cheap too only £1.10 for 2 pints :)
I too am only on list 1 and 2 most of the time and think that I've a way to go before raw milk will be included.  Apparantly though - Jersey milk has a lovely taste, something to look forward to :)

Meadow Farm is the one nearest me but they also attend the farmers markets so I can pick up raw milk and organic eggs  from one of those which is not even 10 miles away :)
Ps. I've just tried goats milk and seemed to be ok with it :)
