Where any of you taking strong pain medications (the kind you get from a pain specialist) when you started treatment with Matia? Do you know if one has to go off all medications immediately or gradually cut them as pain levels become bearable. My IC pain was tolerable until I went the convential western medical route. I had a hydrodistention and several bladder washes before realizes that these "treatments" had sent my pain levels through the roof. At first, I truly believed the literature that said one's bladder has to hurt worse before it gets better. Currently, my bladder pain would keep me bedridden without medication. I know medication is not healthy and is only managing the symtpoms. Any encouragement would be most appreciated.
I would let Matia guide you through this.
I would think that you would need to cut back gradually. I know that once we have the knowledge that these meds are bad for us we want to stop taking them. In time that will happen. You do not need to suffer. Matia will guide you through this stage of treatment. Just my two cents. Tammy

I completely agree with Tammy.
The first time I went into
The first time I went into treatment I was on pain killers even at one point I had been on morphine drip for a short time ,and sleeping pills. I didn't have an addiction type with draw when i went off them. i don't know if that was from the herbs or not but I have a feeling it was.
I was able to go off them with in 3 months we just gradually stepped off everything. I think it was harder for me to go off the sleeping pills then the pain killers. I was in LA the first time tho and I do remeber the accupunture being very helpful for me pain wise. I know I have talked to other patients who don't find the acupunture helpufl and I know you don't need it to heal but for me I responded very well to it. I know your long distance so you will not be having that but I am sure she will be giving you herbs to help with this. I have talked to other people in the past who have been on meds and it is an individual thing that gets weaned off as you go a long. She doesn't expect you to already be off everything when you go in. Try not to stress about it and just do the diet for now that is the best thing you can do. Only take what you truly need so that easing off will not be so hard. Be kind to yourself now because i know it can be an emotional time going off the painkillers can often bring about a lot of stuff you didn't have to deal with before and also the toxins of the drugs will have there own die off. So cut yourself slack and just let your body tell you what it needs.Try not to put a time line on things and let Matia just guide you.
You are doing such a good thing for your body and I am proud of you.
Thanks!
I just realized that my post sounded like I was going off pain meds by myself LOL. I could never attempt such a feight without Matia's guidance. I had just read a form somewhere that one must go off medications in treatment and was hoping that it was a gradual process (My memory may be incorrect as I haven't had my first appointment yet). Nicole, thank you for sharing part of your recovery story with me. I am so encouraged! Sometimes being on narcotic pain killers encourages one to think that their IC is past the point of no return. The women in the support group sound so vibrant and healthy. Thanks again for the support!
I am glad i could be there

Nicole
May
Nicole, My first appointment with Matia is in the middle of May. My daughter, who is 8, has an appointment as well since she wets the bed and is constipated. I am looking forward to regaining my health:-)
Oh how wonderful that you are
Oh how wonderful that you are able to prevent her from this terrible disease. I wish you the best on your new journey.

I've been in treatment 5
I've been in treatment 5 months. When I began I was on 5 western medicine drugs & have weaned myself off 4 of them. I'm still struggling with getting off Ativan because I have never been pain free . I have in the pass gone off an antidepressant & it was very difficult for me. It takes a good amount of time to wean. I think it was pretty easy with the rest. The pharmacist helped me most & told me the safest way to do each one. I also have MS so sometimes some of the things that happens are confusing for me to tell exactly what is wrong.
Breathing & meditating really helps center me & gives me hope for healing. Just be kind to yourself & in time everything will change. It never feels like much is happening but when you look back you realize how far you have come.
