do you think if you overeat one thing, you will wind up becoming intolerant to it? for example, i seem to be ok with the brown rice cereal, but at this point it is more or less the only carb i eat, so i end up eating it twice a day. i am very careful about the amount i eat (about 1/3 of a cup per serving) and always eat it with protein, but i still worry that eating it twice a day will lead me to become intolerant. i'm not sure, but i think this might have been what happened to me with potatoes. that being said i had NO portion control when i ate potatoes, so i ate A TON on any given day. but still... should i be experimenting with more things like spelt and kamut, even though i think i'm good with brown rice, just to be sure i don't become intolerant to one thing? i'm also curious about whether this has happened to anyone with vegetables. i used to eat A TON of red peppers because it was my only real "snack" food, and then started to worry that i might be becoming intolerant, so i don't eat them anymore. but, as i've said before, in my case, it's really hard to tell if a food is actually effecting me or if it's just other things and i am connecting it to the foods unnecessarily. so wondering what everyones thoughts are on this...
intolerance
On the call last week Matia was talking a little about not being too concerned with intolerances. True food alleriges, yes, but not intolerance. She said when your gut is healed you should not have a problem with intolerance no matter how often you eat a food. She said we are so limited in our choices we do not have the luxury of following a rotation diet. Being on list one, I have to eat the same things every day. I can only tolerate brown rice and rice cakes as carb. I really have no choice. I know I may have an intolerance to eggs that has developed because when I eat them now I get phlegm in the back on my throat. BUT, I still eat them because they do not bother my bladder and I do not have much else to eat. So, unless the food is bothering your bladder, I would not worry to much. The other symptoms for intolerance should go away once your intestines are healed. I had to stop eating potatoes because I realized they are feeding the yeast for me. I would crave them and eat them a lot, and I would wake up with headaches and have anal itching at night after eating them..I do not think I was intolerant of them, I think they were feeding yeast.
pain versus general intolerance
thanks for your response. that's helpful to know as far as general food intolerances. so bummed i had to miss the call - always such good info. but, actually, when i say i'm concerned about becoming intolerant to a certain food, i mean intolerant in the sense that it starts making my actual vv pain worse. want to do whatever i can to prevent losing any more of my "safe" foods again, if indeed there is a way to prevent that. any one have insight on this?
Intolerent
I think if you are ready for that food than it should be okay and if you are having any pain its not related to that food.you know? Why would you all of the sudden develop intolerence to a food just cause you eat it all the time? That seems like you mean you would develop an allergy. I think the body is in survival mode right now and its going to do the best it can with what you give it. Is there a possible offending food that you eat all the time and its causing you to doubt whether or not its okay to eat it as much as you do? Have you taken notes on each those possibilities and notice any kind of pattern? I don't think unless you are eating an insanely high amount- like you know nothing but cucumbers all day. you will be making your pain worse. I know that I am eating all foods that I tolerate all the time and my pain comes and goes regardless of what I am eating. It's not always related to food although eating a food we are not ready for can bring on a flare for sure... I have found if anything that over time I am building up a stronger tolerence to certain foods the more I eat them- for example I used to get really bad burning from carrots but that has gotten better. I also used to flare a little bit from avocado and spinach but over time I ate them everyday and got to a point where I tolerated it. I have been eating potatoes and rice as my grain and so far they have not made my pain worse simply from being a regular feature. Mary
