Did anyone have any kind of joint edema during the protocol?
I had an ankle injury 6 months ago, and since it hasnt healed yet the doctors wanted me have an MRI to see whats going on in my ankle. Usually it takes 6 weeks to heal.
It turns out the pain and swell I have is not due to the injury (cartilage, ligaments are OK), its due to the edema around the joint, and the doctor told me this could be a result of another underlying disease, and I am very young to have this kind of edema there. In the meantime, he had me have couple of blood/urine tests and according to the results I have lots of infections including urinary tract, and told me the joint edema might be bone complications of the infections in my body. So I am suspicious and pretty concerned indeed , dont know whats going on. Anyone had a similar case? or any idea? The point is that, my body is weak--cant heal quickly and when I told him I had hair&nail falling off, facial hair--he said its usually due to lack of vitamins and he was surprised I never had any tests during my treatment and found it a bit sad that I called it dieoff constanly. So what we call detox, he said might be vitamin deficiency..I am confused.
He believes in both eastern and western medicine, and tries to understand the root of the problems, and doesnt usually recommends antibotics but this time recommended me using antibiotics due to severity of the infections. I just emailed to Matia and not sure what to do. I wonder what having --we call dieoff -in body might not be a good thing either----?
Selda, so sorry to hear of
Selda, so sorry to hear of the trouble you are facing. Each time I begin a new "medical mystery" it is so scary. We have kind of a sick joke in my family that I cannot seem to get an ailment without a doctor commenting this is something he has never/rarely seen and that he just doesn't know what causes it. That being said, I too, have wondered about vitamin deficiency throughout this process. I certainly try to stick to the proportions in our diet, but I rarely get enough of the greens down... I figure that must affect something. I certainly don't think it would hurt to have some blood tests done to determine if there is a deficiency. I also think it was wise to contact Dr.B. Please keep us updated as to what is suggested.

I feel for you, it can be so scary and confusing when we hear so many different opinions from so many health professionals.
I am sure that Dr Brizman has come back to you by now but am sure that she will help you with this. I don't necessarily think that all the strange symptoms we have are die off but can be the inflammation and inbalances in our body manifesting themselves elsewhere.
From what I have read it seems that there are alot of IC sufferers who develop problems with joints and often it is after an injury and I know that many have in time recovered from these too. I hope that this will be the case for you too.
Keep us posted how you are doing.

I had tested for vitamin
I had tested for vitamin deficiency many times. The problem is that what used to be deficiency is normal now. Also, if you are on the borderline, most of the times, it is considered normal. What's considered deficiency in Europe, is taken as normal in the US.
You are lucky that your doctor is open-minded. Vitamin deficiency is best corrected with proper nutrition.
This is so tricky because in
This is so tricky because in so many ways this treatment is a leap of faith and eacht practitioner has her/his own ideas. If it is calling the validity of the treatment into question, I really think you should talk honestly to Dr B about it. She may have a totally different wiew from this dr which may ease your mind and I guess at some point, you need to weigh everything, pray, meditate or whatever and go with your instinct.
Hope you feel better soon. (((hug)))
joint edema
Hi Selda,
It's been awhile since you and I chatted - you helped me get through some rough spots back in the beginning - I'm sorry that you're having a rough time of it.
I understand your questioning this treatment. I ended up here when conventional medicine had SO failed me. My UTIs had become so drug resistent that I ended up in the emergency room for IV antibiotics - one of which filled my lungs with fluid. So, I had no choice but to trust in something else. However, I have done that trust while still using a conventional Dr. as part of my team - a young guy who doesn't think he's God (took awhile to find him) I'll go in - once with a fever, bright orange mucous stools that turned to bloody mucous stools, saying that Dr. B isn't worried, how about you? So, stool samples, and follow-up, and weird stomach distress disappeared, and all tests came back normal.
As for the muscle scares and occasionally wondering about MS - I've been able to consider it a disease, that while terrifying, isn't really something that can be cured by early detection and I gave it time to work itself out. Especially since so many of us are talking about all the same strange things.
So, is die off a good thing? For me, after PAP exams are finally normal (after being told that cervical cancer was probably going to happen) getting off of high doses of anti-anxiety medication, that was causing heart problems, ending daily doses of pseudaphed for sinus problems, ringing in the ears slowly stopping, ear canals no longer closed, no UTI in a year, being able to have sex again and enjoy it, wondering if being this horny is normal at 52 :), the die off thing is all part of it.
Selda, if I were you, I would walk the difficult path between Eastern and Western medicine. I would let both parties know that you want to all work together as a team. From personal experience, I know that Matia will work with you. She once researched an alternative option to my anxiety - because it wasn't exceptable to one of my other doctors.
Hang in there - if you need to chat - you can find me at greatwoker1@hotmail.com (I've never been able to E-mail through this site)
Thanks to all
Thanks to everyone who shared their opinions and support. I appreciate. I have an appointment and will talk to Matia about it. Its kind of hard not knowing whats goin on in the body and depending on intution always, I guess thats the part which makes me anxious sometimes. I try to be positive and be patient but not possible always.
As Lynette says, I noticed couple of other people who had joint problems but I wonder if what they had was part of IC or sth they had during the protocol. I mean, is it sth normal during protocol before the body gets healed? I dont know, hopefully Matia will clarify me.
