Flying with Probiotics

Hi All,

I know there are a lot of posts on the subject of flying
with probiotics.  I just got home from my
first appointment with Dr. Brizman!  I’m
excited and anxious at the same time
J
Anyway, it went well and this is my second day taking the mega probiotic and I
just read on an old post that putting the probiotic in a checked bag may kill
all of the good bacterias.  Well I flew
home with the probiotics in the checked bag like an idiot.  I didn’t even think about it.  SO, does anyone know if this is true?  Does putting probiotics in the checked bag
kill everything?  I’d hate for this to be
wasted time as soon as I’m getting started.
Thank you!!

I fly all the time with probiotics (although as carry-on) and I've been suspicious that the probiotics are killed by the radiation from the x-ray.  I have taken longer to get well than I thought I would, but I definitely notice a difference when I take them vs. when I am off them in terms of symptoms, so I think they are still okay.  As far as checked baggage, are you referring to the radiation or from the probiotics not staying cold?  As far as the refrigeration goes, Matia has told me as long as they aren't heated to a very high temp, they should last out of a fridge for up to 48 hours, but the longer you can keep them cool the better, obviously.  I have had probiotics delivered when I wasn't home in the summer and they sat out for several hours (in a box with an ice pack though) and they seemed to work okay. How does one really know I suppose but I wouldn't fret about it, just take them and hopefully you will see a difference and know!

I guess I was most concerned with them getting too cold down in the baggage compartment.  Like freezing and killing them?  BUT I had a water bottle in my checked bad and it didn't even seem that cold when I got it out when we landed so I think I probably just need to relax.  It is so hard not to get neurotic about every little thing.  I hadn't even thought about the radiation but that is something to keep in mind in the future.  It is amazing that you continue to fly all the time and deal with all of this.  You have probably learned so many tricks!

I didn't see your post before I responded!  I will definitely do this test when I get home, I know they are still white at least? Haha oh dear..
