Hi everyone,
I'm two months into treatment and things seem to moving along quite well. I have started list three and I noticed plain yoghurt as part of that list. My problem is that every plain yoghurt I have found has 10 or more grams of sugar. I'm not sure which one to buy. This is one food I can't wait to eat. Does anyone on list 3 or higher have any suggestions or have had a brand of yoghurt that was fine with Dr. B.

I mean sugar. I looked at so many labels and they all have sugar. When I read the ingredients there is no sugar mentioned put when you look at the value of grams in the chart the sugar content is at least 9 grams or more! I'm confused. So greek yoghurt is acceptable? I'll look for Fage.

The sugar listed is the natural milk sugar. As long as it is plain with no added sugar. And per Deir, definitely go for the full fat. They really mess with the non and low-fat. Also, I am trying to find yogurt from pastured (grass-fed) cows (more omega 3s) since we are not allowed raw milk until very late in treatment. Wallaby (in CA) and St. Benoit (Also CA) are California examples of small batch, minimally processed milk products. Same with my butter.
Regarding the sugar, I was a bit confused about this on list 3, but Dr. B assured me that it is NOT a small amount of natural sugar from foods that she is worried about at a certain point in treatment. Turnips and carrots also have a lot of natural sugars also, for example, and they are on list 3. She is also trying to control for inflammation. That is why she did not allow me the high-antioxidant, low sugar fruits from list 3 at first. Only veggies, then I added a little more cheese, then yougurt, then fruit, then nuts, then nut butters. It is more about the vitamin content. The higher the content, the more possibility to trigger inflammation. This is why the treatment is such a slow trickle of supplements and foods. Slowly turning on the healing tap is the way to go with IC (according to Dr. B :)

Thanks, this helps alot! I went on the Wallaby website and took note of the ingredients. That is what I will look for at the health food store. Dr. B also put the same restrictions on me for list 3. No Fruit yet! I'm being very cautious about adding new foods. My next step is Yoghurt and then I will add tomatoes which scares me the most. Just wondering can you let me know which mild cheeses you added besides mozerella and provolone. You are extremely knowledgeable and I'm truely greatful for your responses. How long did it take for her to add the fruits? Just wondering because I'm kind of bored of eating eggs every morning. Some yoghurt and fruits sounds great to me. What list are you presently on?

I started with Voikos yogurt, i like the strained texture but they don't have organic plain. I tried Stoneyfield. They recently started carrying whole milk kind, but it's still a bit watered down for my taste. I love Wallaby. They have organic greek but low fat. I can't wait to be ok'd on home made yogurt, my mom makes it from scratch than saving a portion of it to make another batch. Even our little shih tzu who had intestinal issues as a puppy eats it, absolutely loves it.
On East Coast there is Seven
On East Coast there is Seven Farms yogurt. You can also make your own. If anyone here does, please post more details. I tried once and it didn't quiet work. I should give it another try.

I read a while back somewhere that Dr. B does not recommend homemade yogurt until further into treatment. This may have been that raw milk was the issue, but I don't think so. I think it is that the probiotic strains in the home-made are too strong for our slowly healing guts. Better to go with the "dumbed-down" commercial stuff until she ok's the home-made :)

Wow! You are starting on list 4?? How are your pain levels? Are you mostly feeling good these days? Last you posted a while back you were still having some challenges with getting your herbs right, etc...But if you are moving to list 4, surely you must be feeling pretty good?? Can you fill us in!!! ;)

FAGE is my favorite. I have read that Oikos (I think) makes a trully full-fat. Read it on a Paleo blog, but I cant find it. You can always petition the heck out of your local store and they can get stuff. Trader Joes makes a full fat plain too but have not tried it. They also sell grass-fed Kerrygold butter from Ireland that is CHEAP (for grass-fed, that is)

i am doing good but could be better....the pain levels are consistently 3-4 without much spiking so I'm very grateful for that but constipation has been awful !!!! Never had this problem before but it has come on with a vengeance & won't let go. Dr B is trying to help me through this but it is a slow go.
