Low blood pressure/blood sugar/iron? Why do I feel like I'm going to pass out?

Hello hello!

I'm sure this is just a part of the whole picture and nothing to worry about... but I have had low blood pressure (I usually do, but it's been lower than even normal) for the past few months now. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, was it easily addressed/not a big deal?

It's just been weird for me lately since I've been generally unhealthy and uncomfortable for the past three years, but it's really been in the last three months that things got serious and so now all of my new symptoms get me a little more worried than the ones I've been dealing with for forever.

I'm not sure what my deal is, but if I don't eat like every two hours, I get really tired, and feel like a diabetic who needs her insulin PRONTO. I think this is pretty typical for us, but I'm wondering what it is... low iron, blood sugar, or maybe it is just the low blood pressure?

Would be interested to know if others have experienced this and what the diagnosis/resolution was, or if maybe I in fact, have diabetes, and should join a different forum :)

Hi, I'm not technically in treatment yet, still waiting to be seen, but I have been in diet 1 for almost a month. Just a thought ... are you eating enough good carbohydrates with each meal?

Hi Hannah,

I had low bp a couple years ago when i was first diagnosed. It was running 85/60 . I felt just like you like I was going to pass out all the time. It lasted for about 6 months. It just gradually got better after working with a naturalpath for candida. That symptom had got by the time i started seeing Matia. I now just have a constant urge. I understand how scary it can be and I feel for you. It will get better and probably much quicker than me since you have Dr. M. Eating a little extra salt and wearing these socks my heart doc gave me helped a bit. Not sure what dr. B would think about the extra salt. I would ask her before you try. Just keep reminding yourself that every day is one day closer to be healed. Take care, feel free to email me with any questions.

I know very little about this but just heard a talk on the Traditional Food Preparation movement. She spoke about how hypoglycemia and malnutrition are common in the west with our low-fat, carb-laden, diets. When our bodies are really out of whack there is a huge impact on our ability to use fats, absorb nutrients, etc... and it can take months of proper eating and other support before we are starting to digest food properly again. The speaker said it takes most of her clients 2 years to be running on all 8 cylinders (her words!) Sorry I can't explain it better, but her talk is good. Just block out her ideas about coffee enemas. Those are NOT for IC patients ;) Listen with a "grain of salt"

I also agree with megan that hopefully you are eating carbs/fats/protiens/veggies with each meal?

This may sound like a stupid question, but are you eating enough at meals?  This has been an issue for me.  I used to eat until I was satisfied, but my blood sugar would get low after a couple hours.  Now, I eat until I am good and full and I feel much more even-keel throughout the day.  I'm at a good weight for me (5' 5'' and 126 lbs).  Maybe you can try eating a little more than you're used to and see if it helps?  
 
I've never had low blood pressure, but I have had iron-deficiency anemia in the past and felt weak because of it.  Now I make sure I'm eating plenty of grass-fed beef (I eat it every day, sometimes twice a day) because Dr. B said I need to eat as much of it as possible - and it does make me feel better bladder-wise and energy-wise after I eat it.  I also am able to eat cooked spinach, which is high in iron and other vitamins.  I also eat potatoes which are very filling, but I make sure not to exceed a portion of 1/3 starch per meal (which is hard for me because I LOVE starchy stuff!).

Thanks so much for your responses. Very helpful and reassuring. Amina, and Mimi, yeah I figured this wasn't so unheard of considering everything else that's going on in my body right now. Amina, I'm glad you figured it out and that it's a non-issue for you right now. Veeery reassuring.
As for food: I am eating very well balanced meals. I was stuffing myself to the brim for a while, but my main problem right now is my GERD, so unfortunately I can't overdo it (or maybe fortunately)... I don't think I've ever eaten so much in my life though. I basically have a well portioned meal (with protein, carbs and veggies) every two hours. I try not to make the meals huge so that my body can digest, but we're talking a serving of meat (a drumstick, steak, filet of fish etc.) per meal.
So, I don't think that's the problem. Although, Lisa Ann I do feel MUCH better when I eat beef, and I have been eating quite a bit of it as well. I'm on the same page with you, at least once a day if not twice a day for the past couple of weeks now... this is quite a change for me since I was a vegetarian for 20 years before this diet!
It does give me more energy, but the energy wears off after a while and I'm back to square one... and I simply can't afford to eat more meat than I do per day HA!
