Forums:
Hello everybody,
I´m going to become a new long distance patient to Dr. Matia Brizman. I know about her treatment and her approach since 2007, when my IC was diagnosed by the cystoscopy with hydrodistension. In 2008 I joined this forum, but lately I decided to try long lasting antibiotic treatment protocoln first. It partly helped me and relieved my symptoms to ca. 50 per cent, but since I went off the treatment in Nov 2011, the problems slowly return. Bladder problems, irritation, bladder accute inflammations, strong recurrent vaginal problems, lower back pain and abdominal pain, fatigue, exhaustion, low fever... During the summer I have been treated for tooth inflammation and next for the bladder and vaginal infection, both with antibiotics. I don´t want to take them again and again and I am not able to cut this chain of problems.
Now everything has been prepared for my journey from Prague to Santa Monica. It seems I am the second girl from Czech Rep. to travel such a long distance for finding a help. My appt. with Dr. Brizman is planned on 25th Sept. The expenses are really huge, but it´s worth a try and I hope it will help me to fight the IC and all of related problems. After a lot of experiments with classical medicine and also some non-working alternative treatments I consider it as the last chance how to treat myself and try to regain my life back.
If any of you plans to visit Dr. Brizman on 25th Sept 2012, I will be glad to meet you.
One question for experienced/local patients: this is my first time to visit USA. I would like to spend approx. 10 days in California and I need to eat something. Could you recommend me the supermarket chain or any kind of shopping center, where it is possible to buy healthy food and which you use to shopipng? I also wonder which water is the best for drinking (what sort of water to buy).
Many thanks!
Best wishes to all of you!
Michaela
Hi Michaela, You've made the
Hi Michaela,
You've made the right decision to come and see Matia. I think she is an amazing person, and i wish i knew someone like her before contributing to a chain of unhealthy diet and use of antibiotics. Most supermarkets in LA sell organic food, or a section for it. However, Whole Foods (there is one close to Matia's office), and Sprouts markets would be your best choice. Both also carry the probiotics she'll put you on. As for eating out, the best bet in the beginning would be a steak or fish restaurant, where you can ask them to cook plain fish with butter, or steak without any seasoning (ask for the grill to be cleaned so other spices don't get on yours), steamed veggies and a baked potatoe. There is so much we don't know about food cooked in restaurants, and it's a bit tricky first, there always is an ingredient that may not be ok for you especially in the beginning when you are more sensitive to handle it. I would avoid any ethnic, chinese, mexican, indian japanese restaurants, as they use marinates and herb/spices you may not be aware. Oh, and for water, I drink arrowhead, which is ok'ed by Matia and readily found in any market. Make sure it doesn't have fluoride added to it, recently I started seeing some labels with fluoride added. Best of luck.

Dear Selichan, thanks a lot
Dear Selichan,
thanks a lot for your support and also for the tips about the food stores and water. I hope in restaurants the staff will be friendly and the small (but significant) changes in meals wiill be possible. Thank you also for the warning, which restaurants can be dangerous for me. I don´t visit this sort of restaurants in Czech Rep. too (in Chinese sometimes it is possible to ask for some modifications).
Currently I am after a hard bladder inflammation/kidney infection and unfortunately my usual symptoms got worse, so it is more difficult for me to travel such a long distance than 1 month ago, when I was booking the filgth ticket etc. My bladder was calm more than now and it was easier for me to plan and arrange all the necessities connected with the joruney. Hope the inflammation will not return and I will be able to come to L.A.
Once more - many thanks.
Michaela- Welcome and best
