Hi all- I think I need glasses but I am afraid to go for an exam because  I know they put drops in your eyes. Has anyone asked Dr B if those drops are ok for us?

I've been wearing glasses since I am two. Those drops are to dilate your pupils. I have never had that done, it is not necessary. Just tell them you don't want it.

I agree that it is not necessary, they will try and persuade you but just be firm and say no

I am very curious about this. I have been going and wearing glasses since the age of 5. I am now 55. I have slways had my eye dialated. We have a big family history of Glaucoma. Can anyone expound on this further? Thank you.

I know they dilate your eyes to check for Glaucoma which is a good thing, but it is optional and while in treatment it would just be better to not have it done.

Patty, I would check with Dr. B to see what he says. Sometimes the risks of missing something like glaucoma isn't something you would want to mess with. I bet with treatment your risks of developing glaucoma will be slim to non as the liver and eyes are very much connected. It will be interesting to hear what he has to say. If you don't have significant risk of eye diseases just a check up without drops is best. I am lucky enough to have 2 optometrists in the family and do have a family history of glaucoma as well, but just started wearing glasses in the past 2 years but have avoided any dialating eye drops with my cousin being my eye Dr.

Thank you. I wasn't sure if we were talking about while in treatment or after treatment. I will talk to Boaz when the time comes. I have until next April.

I have a family history of all sorts of eye problems and I know it is very important to have them check your eyes thoroughly if you have such history. Catching things early is very important. I had another option that cost $30 which did the same thing as dialating but without drops. It was a new machine that they didn't have to put drops in. I can find out the name of it if your interested.  Insurance does not cover it though.

Thanks Jessica. Would be worth the 30 out of pocket.
