Ugh this diet is SO hard... sugar cravings anyone?

I can do three days max on this diet and then by the third day I end up binging on something forbidden. Could the intense sugar/sweetness addiction be a part of Candida? It feels like the devil is luring me into his den every time this happens... it's SO hard to resist... it's been IMPOSSIBLE to resist.

I've been on the Candida diet before and it wasn't nearly as difficult. I used to eat bell peppers as my sweet.. but now, there's nothing!
 

How do you cope? Especially when the sweet you eat doesn't have any immediate negative results to keep you from eating it again and again and again and again and again? I feel so guilty after!

I ate 11 caramel candies (French caramel with salted butter... I'm totally addicted... THEYRE SO DELICIOUS!)

I still crave sugar and am allowed to eat a bit of fruit, fresh or dried every day which helps tremendously. I am pretty convinced that it is the yeast that is talking to you. I am also convinced, as a life long sugar addict, that we cant stabilize our guts and heal our IC if we eat sugar. I did not believe that at the beginning of this work and I had to taper off sugar by eating dried apples. But got there somehow, thank god. I dont feel deprived any more when other people eat alcohol and sweets. I would have never beleived that a year ago. After you stay off of sugar for the better part of a year, the conventional desserts are sickly sweet. I have purposely not started with agave sweetened treats because I feel safer here and am having a lot of trouble with my weight because I am sitting so much.
What changed for me this year, among other things, was the realization that thsi is not a diet, it is the way we all should be eating. My husnad went off alcohol and did the diet with me and he lost 15 pounds and feels better. he still has the weekly sugar treats but I am switching him over to the agave sweetend stuff.
After you eat this way for awhile, you likely will nto want to go back to the old stuff. Once you get to the end of list 3, you will have an abundance of riches to eat. I hope that you are able to come see Dr. B. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Love and best of luck.

Yeah,
I went on a diet about two years ago for my health (suspected Candida) without sugar and it was terribly hard at first, but then I experienced just what you're talking about. Again, I think it's the fact of not having ANYTHING sweet whatsoever that's really killing me. When I crack and eat sugar, it's almost like I"m telling myself I'll never be able to eat it again so I better shove it all in my mouth NOW before it's too late!
 
I guess I just have to trust that the discipline will come, especially when I realize how bad I feel when I eat things I am not supposed to. Glad to know I'm not the only one :) Thanks for your help!

Hannah dont feel bad!  I suck at the diet, seriously.  I've gotten a lot better though. But as time goes on you will cheat less and less because the bad sugar you eat will start tasting way too sweet (i know thats hard to believe) and you wont binge on it, you will want to spit it out.  I had a sip of a cherry limemade from Sonic, something I used to love.. and I was repulsed with how sweet and artificial it tasted.  I didnt even want it.  So, it will get easier.  Some people are super disciplined with the diet, and others (like me) struggle a little more.  Its just a huge learning curve being in this treatment, but you will get better the further along you go.  Before I started treatment and was pregnant trying to do the diet, Dr B told me to get some naturally sweetened goodies to reach for that will satisfy you.  I used to love the sunspire candies (they are like M&Ms and taste exactly the same), Fabes cookies and brownies, Agave Dream icecream, and Wax Orchards fudge sauce.  Maybe you could have some of those types of things on hand so you dont reach for the bad sugars.  At least until you get into treatment?  Its hard I know, especially when it doesnt cause you pain.  Then after you meet with Dr B  you will get super pumped about the treatment and want to be good.  Trust me!  It does get easier.  And yes, it is the yeast in your body craving the sugar.  Just keep telling yourself that you wont let the yeast win.  Crush its big ugly face!

It is very hard. But somehow in 4 months I have not cheated once. And I used to eat sugar EVERY day, and drink alcohol most days.... I use coffee and tea with cream and they curb my cravings. I can have berries now and sometimes I pop a couple of those or a few cashews. You have to find other ways to self-soothe. Walks, calling friends, good music, a movie or book, etc... Brush your teeth after a meal and move on!! Do NOT bring any of it in the house. Robert Lustig (look up his lecture on sugar on YouTube, horrifiying facts about sugar-thanks Researchnerd for introducing me to his work...) He also has a new book out on sugar. Lustig says you can't change the behavior, but you can change the environment (meaning, don't expose yourself to it! :)
I wasn't "flaring" per se, when I  ate sugar in the 6 weeks between the onset of my IC symptoms and meeting with Dr. B. But I understood pretty quickly that my gut was imbalanced, and even ONE bite of sugar can set you back months after you start the protocol. The yeast are ready to eat and our body early in treatment can't fight the yeast. Fear of having to start at square one again with this protocol, fear of the pain coming back are HUGE motivaters for me...
Favorite list 3 snack: A whole wheat, sugar/yeast free flatbread cracker (I found a commercial brand) I spread a thin layer of butter and almond or cashew butter on the cracker and eat it with my black tea with cream. This can also work with Kamut or rice cakes.

If we don't excel at health, the only other option is disease.

It took me forever to give up the sugar.  I would cheat with fruit sweetened stuff all the time and agave, and it TOTALLY MESSED ME UP.  Some people can cheat and get better, some people can't.  Siiiince you don't know which you are, it is better to grit your teeth and eat mashed potatoes or some other delicious buttery carb instead, with a gorgeous steak.  I recommend www.berrylocal.com for awesome recipes.  I haven't eaten fruit or sugar in over a year, and I am so so proud of myself.  I would also like to note, that I'm not dying for it either.  I'd rather have tacos and jalopanos.
