Partial tear right shoulder

MRI recently revealed that I have a partial tear of my rt shoulder (rotator cufff).

I spoke with Dr. B - (at the time I didn't know it was a tear).  I started physical therapy and am not able to have any manipulation or massage as I flare (all over itching and vag burn).  I am able to do the ultrasound and exercises/stretches.

I am so scared!!  The procedure for this is a cortisone shot and the therapy.  If this doesn't work than surgery.  I am so upset - all of this totally interrupts my healing with this program.  My arm was hurting for a few months and I just thought it was IC related.  I am not able to work as my work is extremely physical.  Has anyone had anything like this.  It just always seems one step forward and two steps back.  I have not been able to exercise due to flaring (except walking) and in my gut I just knew I was getting weaker physically.  I am having a tough time hanging on and not entering the depression world.  I just feel that I work so hard and have been so committed to this program and healing and then this happens - WHY??

Thanks for listening.

I am not sure if this will help, but last year my son broke his leg and had a partial tear of 2 of the cruciate ligaments in his knee while wrestling for his school. If it was a full tear he would require surgery but the fact that it was a partial tear he had to try physical therapy first and after 2 months it was healed. Give it time and hopefully the rotator cuff can heal also. As for the cortisone maybe you can tell them you dont want that and try just the therapy.

Bries where is the tear? Go to Katysays.com and read up on the shoulder. Go to restorativeexercise.com and purchase the 15 dollar supple shoulders class so you can work on all the muscles in the shoulder in a safe way. Get some approval from the PT so that when your shoulder is doing better you can add in these safe exercises designed to balance the shoulder. What you learn from Katy Bowman will prevent a retear.
Also her DVD, "From the Shoulders UP" is available on Amazon. Her work is subtle but it stopped my chronic back pain overnight.
If you want to talk about injuries I might have some other ideas so we should talk off line.

If we don't excel at health, the only other option is disease.

Cathy thank you so much for the info on your son's knee.  It was reassuring.
Mimi- thanks for all the info - checked out katysays.com - very helpful.  I am seeing the orthopedist next Wednesday and when Dr. B. gets back will let her know it is a tear.  I just happen to be one of the ones who is not able to do any exercise (except walking) or any manipulation/massage as it activates my lymph which obviously still has quite a bit of toxins in it.  I get such a terrible whole body itch and rash that I just can't take it.
Thanks to both of you so much.  Will keep you updated on treatment and what Matia says to all of this.
