Well, this is my second time trying Dr. B's protocol and I am not enthused. Pain level is so great, I don't think I can continue.

Last fall I tried to start but pain went to level 10 and I couldn't continue. I then for lyme and co-indfections with an herbalist and natural lyme doctor and got down zero symptoms or at least pain levels that were very reasonable but I didn't feel like I was addressing my gut so I started with Matia again.

The problem I am having is that I have my life back and I can't go back to being so sick that I can't get out of bed etc. I also don't want to lose the progress I made. I had two terrifying nights of racing heart beat and mind blowing tinnitus and level 8-10 bladder pain. Matia adjusted the protocol to no avail. I don't want to email her daily or even more than once a day.

When you have level 10 pain is at 3am what do you do? Since I already know that I have herbs that will knock it down, how can I not take them while I wait for an email response from Dr. B?

This weekend I had to drive 8 hours to take my son to camp and I couldn't be in pain plus I knew that Dr. B wasn't available. I stopped everything again.

This is so hard. I don't want to start perscription pain killers just so I can start treatment.

Advise anyone?

I think when she was more available through email, it was easier. I totally understand why she couldn't continue with that though. So much of the healing depends on the confidence and the psychological belief that you will heal. The emails and conversations I have had with Dr. B have be so dry and totally lacking any encouragment. It was so different last autumn when I was communitcating with her. Does she send any of you encouragement when she changes the protocol? I am not even getting a signature. I would love to hear from her, "hang in there, you can do this" or something. Plus, I really can't say very much when the email must be only 4 lines long. Sorry - just feelig so discouraged.

What was going on with your gut that you decided to try Dr B's protocol? You said you almost had no symptoms. How was your IC at that time? Did you stay on antibacterial of similar herbs when you quit? When you stop those before you healed, many symptoms will come back.

Samara- There is a lot to address here but real quick- what if you give yourself a short goal before you make any decision? There must be a reason you are drawn to Dr B. Maybe give yourself 3 months? Then you can re-evauate.I understand what you are saying though and I think only you can make the decison. The new email thing is tough!

also- you can email her every day for sure. What you are experiencing is urgent!! Don't worry about that

Hi Deir,
I was going to try to just make it through two weeks but I don't know if I can. It's so scary and I have to be able to go to work. Last week I missed two full nights of sleep due to pain, heart racing etc and I was exhausted. I don't have room to go back to being sick again.

Hi Blondy, I want to make sure I am treating the root of the problem which I believe Dr. B does. My gut has not been the same since I took steroids 3 years ago for 4 months.

The times when I have pain is either antibacterial herb like Goldenseal or when I eat or drink something bad, like coffee. That is it.
When I was self-treating and using bunch of random herbs, Pau de Arco was getting me out of bed 5 times a night and I was in pain every afternoon and I was itching, of course I was taking other things, too. Perhaps less antibacterial will help, otherwise, I don't really hear people here complain about pain that high and for such long time. Or may be they just being quiet? I sereously doubt. Most patients have pain somewhat under control relatively soon after starting.

I think reducing doze of antifunguls or antibacterials will help. But I am not a pro. I would request that though.

If you think your issues are mostly fungal now, then you still have to go through her protocol step by step. If you remember from her dissertation, the re-balancing means respecting your particular body and its requirements and helping steer it towards healing. If I use myself as an example: I know I have some yeast overgrowth (have had for years starting in my early 20s but staying under the radar-my body was able to keep it in check). I used to get yeast infections in my 20s and then they stopped but the IC was still growing and I had endometriosis and sub-fertility because of it. I have been on balancing herbs for 7 months before we were able to try a strong anti-fungal for my yeast. My particular body and imbalance would not have been able to manage the anti-fungals 7 months ago. For other people, she might start them right away on anti-fungals or goldenseal or the like. So she has to address things in the order that will be slow but effective for your body. Have you talked with her about the Lymes? Do you have a diagnosis for Lymes?
I agree that you will have to give this more time and plan to communicate with her. Start your protocol on a Monday, and give her a heads up that you will be contacting her daily until you feel more stable. You WILL feel more stable. I think because you have often self-treated and are very knowledgeable and have the Lyme's diagnosis that you think this treatment will not work for you and that you are unique. Dr. Brizman told me that EVERYONE that she treats thinks this way. It is only a small few that this treatment does not help over time.
I don't want to sound alarmist, but you are going to need your gut for the rest of your life. Get your gut healed now so as you age you don't have to worry about it!!!!
