Mearle, I found the same thing with the bomamed sunscreen, it also caused me to flare. I have been mixing jojoba oil and zinc oxide (Dr. B approved this for me) and it's been working great. I just got back from a week in New Mexico and did a lot of hiking. Got red on my shoulders but no burn! It works really well. It does leave a little whiteness, but you can add more jojoba if that's the case and dab some off too. If you have dry skin anywhere it tends to make that look pretty bad... but again, I just rub more oil into these areas to compromise. For me it works well cuz I'm super pale but have been having a lot of acne and redness on my face, this actually neutralizes and unifies my skin tone so it works as a good foundation.
 
I'd still check with Dr. B. I imagine zinc oxide is ok for us, but always good to check on a personal basis!
