Hello All!
So I have been asked to be in a friends wedding in Mexico. It is going to be at an all inclusive resort. Of course I would love to say yes without question, but lets face it, this is not our reality!:( My friend is understanding and gets why I am doubting this trip. So, my question, has anyone had a successful trip/good experience with traveling in Mexico? Is there a brand of spring water that is ok, Dr. M approved? I don't want to end up in an Mexican jail for trying to bring my herbs and supplements into Mexico. The whole trip just scares me, so maybe I should go with my gut and not go?! I have emailed the resort and waiting for their response regarding food and water limitations. I have to make a quick decision, but the trip/wedding isn't until January. Who knows what January could be like. I should be thinking positively and know that I will be more stable and tolerating more food, but I just can't be 100% sure. Thanks! C
Hi CPrince,
Hi CPrince,
I have been to Mexico 3 times while being in treatment with Matia. I actually did really good. Most food in Mexico if eaten at the local spots is free of chemicals because they cook everything from scratch... I don't know what list you are on yet... But if you can have tomatoes, and onions that is what they use as the base in most recipes. If you are going to an all inclusive, they should have spring water... I went to Cabo and they have all types of spring water, they sell it in the little convenience stores... But if you are going to more of like Guadalajara Mexico then the only spring water is Evian. It will say "Agua Natural de Manantial" (water natural of spring). It's harder to find. I reccommend stocking up in the airport after you go through the security check. I purchased 4 large bottles of spring water once we got through the security check at like a starbucks or something and just put them in my carry on. But that was when I was going to Guadalajara.. I know they sell it everywhere in Cabo... As for the food it all depends on what list you are on. But corn tortillas are just made from ground corn so that should be fine. I know for me anyway I was allowed to have corn tortillas from list 1. They serve a lot of meat, and rice, with corn tortillas.. So if you are like me and can handle all that you should be fine. However, if I were you I would find restaurants that the locals go to. Not only are they cheaper, but they will be made from scratch, and taste better. The all inclusive food will proabably be packed processed food that has a lot of chemicals, and ingredients in it.
What part of Mexico are you going too?
Oh and I also had no trouble
Oh and I also had no trouble traveling with the herbs and probiotics. I have flown 3 times with them already. I just put them in a lunch bag in their original bottles, so if they security does go through it they can see they are just supplements. Before I go I transfer all the veggie capsules into gel capsules and put them in the original bottles put it all in a lunch bag with a ice bag(the ones that natren ships thier probiotics in) and I put it in my check in bag. Never had a problem.
Some people even put it in their carry on, but I felt safer putting it in my check in.
HI there- I totally
HI there- I totally understand your fear and how much that stinks!!
I honestly wouldn't go but I sometimes think I am way too cautious and would benefit from a little more courage as far as traveling goes. I personally hate being on vacation and feeling bad but I think so many other people seem to be happier and more distracted. I go back and forth between feeling like I should try to live my life more actively and feeling like I need to slow down and let my body heal and protect myself as much as possible. It is hard to know the "right" answer. basically- there is no right answer. I guess it is what you make it!
it is true, you have no idea how you feel in January and it might just be amazing to get some sun at that time of year.
xoxoxoxo

Sorry to hijak the thread but
Sorry to hijak the thread but Blonday IMO you are far enough into treatment that you deserve a trip to Europe. I think you can pull it off.
C, this is a hard call because in Mexico I totally worry about stomach bugs. There are suggestions on how to avoid stomach bugs in that book I told you about on digestive healing. I think given your food restrictions it would be frustrating. But that is me. And as i type this I am pissed because I don't understand how someone is allowed corn tortillas on list 1 :) but I guess we are all so very different!!
xo

Calieve, how/why do you think
Calieve, how/why do you think Dr. B allowed you corn tortillas from list 1? She did allow me Alvarado Street sprouted wheat tortillas from list 2 which are great. But I don't understand how she would allow corn on list one since it is such a gut irritant and a food that is highly allergenic. Very confused. Sigh :)

Thank you for all your
Thank you for all your replies ladies! Calieve I am primarily on list 1 you could say, but currently mostly puréed foods, fructose, IBS, IC friendly very restricted diet. So, this in of itself causes me such anxiety, no tomatoes, no onions, no cheese, no tortillas. So glad you have had successful trios to Mexico that is awesome! The wedding is in Puerto Vallarta.
I got a reply back from the destination wedding coordinator in charge of my friend's wedding and they said no problem for the gluten and dairy allergy, but couldn't be for certain on the rest, so forwarded my message on to the guest services to see if there would be anything they could make me with the large list of absolute no's. Waiting to hear back on what they will say and he made it sound like it would be difficult to have spring water available. Come on, really you can supply all the alcohol, but can't figure out a few bottles of spring water. Just the cost alone for an all inclusive resort when you can't eat and drink, doesn't really make sense at all. I won't be daring to leave the resort by myelf to try any local places.
Deir, I am with you I have a terrible time with traveling, the flying causes severe L ear pain and GI distress, I assume from the change in pressure and inflammation. And food, never goes well, can't bring my own veggies across the boarder. I think you are absolutely right, this is sounding like I should listen to my gut and stay home. Just sad to miss out on her wedding.
Mimi, funny you mention the parasites in Mexico, my aunt was just diagnosed with parasites and the Dr is almost certain it is from fresh produce she ate the was imported from Mexico. She is now on antibiotics trying to kill that yuck! No thanks, I have enough gastric issues without worrying about parasites invading my body!
I just needed someone who understands help me put this into perspective and talk my thoughts through. Sometimes I feel like I am over reacting and being silly about this. These are real fears of the unknown! I will let you know what I hear back from the resort, if anything. Thanks again!
If taking probiotics you
If taking probiotics you should be fine. I have never had a client come back from Mexico having any problems when they took probiotics. Also for inner ear problems ask dr b. if you can lay on tennis balls at the base of the head. This can help stretch the diaphragm of the cranium therefore opening up the inner ear. There is also something called a still point inducer you can buy that works well.
Hope this helps, Carey
