I will often go almost symptom free due to my diet of eliminted grains. But, like Matia has mentioned, It doesn't last. I then began cutting more and more out of my diet, and then I'll be symptom free for a time, and then I'll realize something new.
Here's my list, in order of how it appeared"
1. Gluten
2. Corn
3. Potatoes
4. All grains
5. Eggs
6. Milk Products (all)
7. NSAIDS (asprin, etc)
8. Soy
I'm sure there will be more.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? I know I should probably be eating more carbs, but good heavens, when I deveate from the list, I INSTANTLY HAVE PAIN!!!! I've been avoiding of the above foods 1-8 for at least 9 months now, going on a year soon.
I recently found out I was pregant (surprise ! :) and now I realized that I can't eat
9. Nuts.
I'm hungry. My bladder hurts. What's going on!?!??
Hey there, we can be food twins!:/ I have a lot of trouble with food, but unlike you, I haven't really been symptom free ever during the course of treatment.
I have cut so many foods along the process, but can't seem to find the right combo and maybe there isn't one. I know this should improve as our guts heal, but it would have been nice 2+ years ago, but I will wait patiently for things to shift, and once again be able to enjoy food and not worry about pain or scouting out every place I go fir the nearest restroom.
Wow, being pregnant and trying to figure all this out! That has got to be hard. I agree your body is going to be rapidly changing with hormones going crazy, so will probably be a little bit more of a challenge to figure outnwhat to eat and keep symptoms under control, also agree with eating more frequent meals to help with the hunger pains. How exciting though!:) Congrats!
How long ago did you eliminate soy?
I actually seem to have similar issue. In the beginning I could tolerate much more than now. I have not been able to add much to list 2-3 for more than a year.
Sorry to hear this. Now that you are pregnant your hormones might affect your symptoms on a daily basis. Maybe things will improve as you progress!! Did you talk with Matia about how pregnancy will impact your IC? I say stick to the things that you can tolerate. Eat frequenty. EAT LOTS OF FAT!!! GRASS FED BUTTER. Tallow, olive oil to help you absorb the vitamins in your veggies and help you feel full. Can you eat avocado? But then keep trying to add foods in. Just because for example, dairy bothered you 2 months ago does not mean you might not be able to eat small amounts of it now.
I would do a careful trial of egg whites and egg yolks seperately, to see if you tolerate one or the other. Hopefully you will tolerate EGG YOLK FROM PASTURED HENS. You can find pastured eggs at WF. Even highly sensitive people can usually tolerate egg yolks even if they can't do egg whites. Please try this! Then if you have a mild reaction to something, keep it in but rotate it every few days. I forget if you said you can eat rice. Eat basmati rice and not brown rice. Brown rice is very cleansing. Some people have luck with white rice pasta. If nuts are bothering you, try roasting them. Also, try buying a small package of SPROUTED nuts from livingnutz.com. Maybe the sprouted nuts will be easier for you too digest. Matia said some people need their nuts more "cooked"/processed, and sometimes she also wonders if trully raw nuts (Livingnutz almonds are trully raw from Italy-not flash pasturized) may be easier.
Did you try mild goat cheddar? Did you try mild goat feta? Did you try small amounts of goat yogurt? Sorry I can't read the OP as I post this. Did you try avocado? Eat a lot of that if you can! Ask Matia if you can try sweet potato. This will really help your energy. With lots of butter and protien in the same meal.
Eat fattier cuts of meat and fatty fish!
Make some meat/veggetable broth (boil meat and veggies that you tolerate: Celery, onion, etc) NOT bone broth. Just the meat. Then add a bit of fat to it and sip on that between meals. It should soothe you a bit and help with the hunger.
Many at the beginning of treatment are hungry. I know you are not at the beginning of treatment, but I mention this because I think you simply have to eat more, and eat more FAT. This is what is recommended for people who are not gaining weight at the beginning of treatment. More, more, more. 6 meals a day if you need them. Why not??
If we don't excel at health, the only other option is disease.
Congrats on your pregnancy! I understand your food issues. Ive been in treatment for 6 mos now and have only been eating level 1 foods and fighting massive hunger too with a feeling of never being satisfied. Definitely eat frequently, between 4-6 times a day if necessary. It will feel like all you do in a day is eat:). It may be more of a challenge with your hormomes changing due to the pregnancy. Matia always says go slow with introducing new foods. Only one at a time, and if you have an increase in pain then hold it for 1 month before trying again.
Hi Mimi, I'm curious about a few comments you made and was hoping you could expand on them.
1. I'm hungry all the time and just beginning foods in stage 2. What is the difference between the bone broth vs. meat broth affecting the bladder?
2. You mentioned it is normal to gain weight at the beginning of treatment? It seems many have lost weight...I had initially lost 12 lbs while taking the super, RH, and Siberian as my protocol. Matia now for the past 4-5 weeks has me on golden, GML, ear, superdophilus, and Siberian. My bladder is doing much better, but I've gained weight which I'm not happy about. Do you know the significance of this?
Hi Heather
Hmmm. Bone broth has gelatin. Meat broth does not. Meat broth still has some vitamins and enzymes and other things but as far as I know, meat broth is safe. Best to ask Dr. Brizman. But I think your advice of eating frequently is the best IMO.
I am not sure what I wrote, but my experience is that I lost about 12 lbs too when I started treatment. I have a stable weight now. If I were doing more anerobic/strengh training type exercise I think I would have a bit less body fat and might be a dress size smaller. I can't say I am 100% happy with my weight, especially since we are still trying to get a handle on my abdominal bloating. But after I gained back all of the weight I lost early in treatment, I have stabilized. Supposedly your body will find the weight that it wants to be when you are more in balance. I am not sure what you meant by not being happy about gaining weight. Gaining weight means you are absorbing nutrients. Are you over weight now? Did you speak to Dr. Brizman about this? I think it is a good sign that you are feeling better and have put on some weight. I know before treatment I exercised ALOT and I was really a size or two too small. I would like to be my current size or maybe a size smaller, but if a size smaller, I would have very little body fat . Trying to find that healthy balance and be a good role model for my kiddos too! Very hard to do!
If we don't excel at health, the only other option is disease.
I had an appt with Dr M. I asked her about the bone vs. meat broth. She said absolutely "no"on the bone broth as it has too many vitamins that myself and I'm guessing all others in treatment wouldn't be able to tolerate.
i also clarified the weight issue. You were spot on about the body finding an ideal weight as we become more balanced. I happened to be experiencing a water weight gain due to the protocol I was on which was not normal. I'm now hoping my new protocol is a better fit.
Thanks Mimi for sharing your vast knowledge...you always seem to have the answers:)

Do you mean you eliminated soy as one of the last things? I thought soy is one of the first things to stop.
