Candida questions

Hi, everyone! I'm new here...my appt with Dr Boaz is this week and I'm excited and nervous at the same time. I know Candida is likely a key player for many of you, but I'm wondering if any of you feel if it's likely the sole contributor to your IC. Mine all started 1 year ago with a yeast infection after antibiotics, then several more rounds of antibiotics later things got progressively worse. I know I've likely had Candida problems for a while, as I have a history of antibiotic use. Are any of your protocols focused on candida? I need to be patient and trust that my treatment will be just right for me, but just wondering if anyone's had a similar experience with the onset of symptoms and also in the path your protocol is taking. Thank you, and I'm grateful to be joining this group. I feel hopeful for the first time in a year!

Yes! I am seeing Dr. B. next week and I also have a major struggle with candida, whenever, I do a candida protocol my bladder flares tremendously. If I eat the sugar and carbs that 'feed' it so to speak, I have less symptoms (go figure). Yeast adheres to the bladder wall and burrows. I believe it is a huge cause of this Sstemming from the gut.
Congrats on starting your program...we are just beginning our journey to health.Yay! Best, Carey

Hi ladies!
My IC also started about a year ago after many, many rounds of antibiotics so I definitely think my main issue is Candida as well. I have also booked an appointment with Boaz and am very excited! I have to wait until the 5th of December though unfortunately as I'm flying over from Australia but I have so much faith in this program :) Wish you both the best of luck!
Emma.

Welcome!
You will not regret working with Dr. Brizman!
The thing is, IC is multi-factorial so there will be a lot of things to address. For some it is mostly bacterial imbalance. For others it is bacteria and yeast. For others it is depleted mucosal tissues and other things that in the Chinese Medicine view need to be addressed, in addition to bacteria and yeast imbalance. It seems that candida must play a big role for many of us. But the underlying conditions that allow for candida overgrowth are also what Dr. Brizman will address. Ask yourself, why do I have a yeast imbalance? Did you take birth control, use steroids or NSAIDS or take antibiotics (sounds like this is a big issue for you). Were there other lifestyle issues such as stress, sugar consumption, eating disorder, vegetarianism, alcohol use. Do you have any other history of digestive issues? (Many here had IBS C or D first.
So I would not focus on the yeast. It is more about strengthening your whole body, probably killing some yeast and other bacteria, and getting your body back to a place where it can manage its gut flora like a healthy body does. Healthy people have candida albicans and a mix of good and bad bacteria. The difference is ours has gone haywire and it is up to us and Dr. Brizman to get the entire body back in balance.
Good luck!

If we don't excel at health, the only other option is disease.

Hello there!
Your issue very well may be dealing with candida but I would suggest to everyone not to so readily point  your finger at candida as the culprit.  For years I thought it was specifically candida as mine started from antibiotic overuse, and yeast infection, etc, so  I  had many antifungal treatments.    Finally I had a couple of practicioners check out stool samples and tell me that I didn't have a problem with  candida and that overtreating myself for a fungus issue that wasn't the primary problem caused even more of an imbalance!!
Dr. B talks about this happening in her dissertation...

For me, it's more of a combination of balancing out the bacteria that have overgrown in my system and along with that of course making sure the candida are at a proper balance as well.

When you have your appointment , if you ask she will tell you if you are looking at your healing from a perspective of you having an excess or deficiency.  If you have an excess ( which could be the case) , then you will attack it from a getting rid of candida and/or bacteria  or pathogens point of view, and if you have mainly a deficiency( which I mainly have for example: you are more amping up the good bacteria and focusing on more of a healing of the lining of the stomach because you simply don't have enough.

Good luck ladies, you have made a great choice...Dr.B is amazing :)

So glad to be starting treatment around the same time as some of you :) Always nice to have a bit of support and hear how others are tracking. Would love to hear all of your stories about your life leading up to IC and what you think caused it for you!
Thanks ladies, I agree, it is probably not Candida alone causing my problems, I think there are probably a lot of factors- I think mine likely does involve some nasty bacteria as well, and I'm sure all the years of continuous birth control pills were not at all helpful either, as well as being a stress-head, never getting enough sleep, etc. And I am sure there is much more if I really think back- I think IC results from a huge range of not so great lifestyle choices. I cannot wait to start and get my body back on track!
