Hi Carrie,
what color is your hair right now?  Do you have to worry about covering grey hair?
I have have tried quite a few APPROVED hair dyes.  I had light blonde hair...I also have to cover greys...and I have terrible scalp sensitivity.  For some reason anything with chemicals on my head will make my scalp itch like crazy!  Here's what I've tried and their results...
1.  Naturtint- you can get at WHole Foods.  Great color options, even if you arent too dark naturally and want to be a blonde.  I had a reaction to the PPD (felt like a chemical burn on my scalp for 2 weeks after the application).  Great grey coverage.  I still use for hilites in foil so there is little contact with my scalp.  There was a comment posted at one time that Dr. M mentioned red hair dye tends to be more problematic, but I would ask her directly.
2.  Tints of Nature- can be purchased at WF.  Product states it has the lowest level of PPD.  I did not have a reaction so this claim could be accurate.  Does not offer a color, at least that I have found, for light blondes.  The dark golden blonde is a nice color, which I use on my roots.  Does not cover greys fully...I still have some peeking thru:(
3.  Palette- I do not recommend for many reasons unless you have an allergy to the other two.

My hair is very blond. I have been letting it grow out and it is root city. My natural hair is a darker dirty blond. Since having kids it has gone much darker than before. Getting a big cut today (going Charlize Theron short!) and will browse Whole Foods. Boaz said that I could to Natricare or something like that? I think you mentioned it in your post...will look into it. Thank you soooo much!

Ah ha! ANother blonde! I did an informal poll a while back and there were an anecdotally high number of blondes and redheads! I think it has something to do with this mess. I know it isn't true across the board- nothing ever is but it just seems there are a lot of fair haired people with IC and other issue like it.

BTW- I use  Naturcolor from whole foods. It is not peroxide so it doesn't bleache hair. My hair is dark blonde. I use two shades and mix them- 10c and 10 n. My hair looks really natural and good. In fact, better than it ever did when I was bleaching it. The sun added a lot of highlights this summer.

Okay, so since we're talking about hair color...  When I was little, my hair was super blonde.  Then in elementary school, it turned brown.  Then when I was pregnant with my second child, it got really dark brown (my aunts thought I colored my hair - but I didn't) and it got wavy, and it's stayed that way ever since.  Go figure.

Such great posts. I used 10A Ash blonde today (first time ever doing my hair myself) Ash Blonde and it turned out a strawberry blonde...my husband likes it. I am working it with a Mac coral lipstick and big pearls. I am looking for something a bit more golden and less orangeish but hey, I'm proud. Got my hair cut today at the salon and used willpower not to go with bleach.
Im going to look into the Natur color too. it will be fun to try them out (or will give me stress!)
This is fun, we should keep sharing our trail and errors. Deir, why do you mix the two? I'm curious. The ash was far from ash...And yes, I had blonde hair until I had kids. My natural hair color is now a mousey dark.
Keep on truckin', Carey

without the ash, it is too red, and the natural covers gray better

Wow Deir, that is interesting about fair and IC? I am a hard core blonde. dont even use any color yet ??? IC does seem like a western world/caucasion disease but I could be wrong. Epidemiology not really being applied here :)

If we don't excel at health, the only other option is disease.
