Forums:
I'm so impressed with the recipes that so many on the forum have come up with...so I'm asking this here: Does anyome have a shake/smoothie recipe that tastes decent, is filling and is IC/Dr. B appropriate?? I am on list 3-4 now but like to keep the sugars and dairy as low as possible of course. I'm open to green veggies in the recipe but can't handle too strong of a "green drink" taste. Thanks!

I don't think Dr. Brizman likes shakes that much. When you blend, you break down the cell walls of the fruits and vegetables, thereby making it easier for the sugars from these to dump more quickly into your blood stream which effects your insulin levels. Dr. Robert Lustig, in his book: "Fat Chance" and also is some of his MANY radio interviews discusses this. Blending is bad. Freezing veggies has a similar effect in terms of breaking down the cell walls of plants. What it comes down to is that we need to eat whole, real food. Smoothies might be enjoyed occasionally but would be the exception. If you ask Dr. Brizman I think she would steer you away from them. But let us know what she says!
Sorry that may not be what you wanted to hear. Maybe when done with treatment you can have them occasionally!

Dr B told me if I tolerate
Dr B told me if I tolerate all of the ingredients I can make myself a shake in the morning. I use frozen blueberries organic baby spinach tbsp of raw almond butter & unsweetened almond milk. Great on days u don't feel like cooking although I don't do this that often:))

I think Amy made a nice suggestion. I agree maybe not every day but once in a while ok. I know smoothies are supposed to be the super-health-food but I think we are going to swing the other direction on this topic so I am sticking with whole foods for the most part.

Thanks for all the input
Thanks for all the input Ladies! I agree with all of it! I agree that shakes/smoothies can be ok - but not everyday. Before I had symptoms of IC, I drank protien shakes and smoothies everyday. Obviously this isn't a good idea. And it was good to be reminded that this is not a good idea! It's tempting to get lazy and want to whip up a shake/smoothie instead of making my normal meals. Thanks again, love this forum.
I love pureed cooked veg and
I love pureed cooked veg and eat a lot of it as a base for thick winter soup with meat for lunch. Is this not a good idea then?
Actually I just remembered I
Actually I just remembered I told Dr B what I eat for lunch and she said it was fine.
Carole I think it is fine to
Carole I think it is fine to have pureed soup. I do too. I think Dr. Robert Lustig is talking about people who are having trouble controlling their insulin and eat poorly and not in a balanced way. Then they have a lot of smoothies or fruit shakes. That is not good. Enjoy your soup! :)

Yes- it more about peole who
Yes- it more about peole who are replacing meals etc. My sister does this "Eat for Life" diet which is all about Green smoothies. Nobody is meant to consume that much Kale in one glass. Ewwww
