I'm not sure if it would move lymph too quickly and cause more problems? I haven't asked specifically about tens, but know many modalities are usually a no. It would be good to ask, because I know it is so individual. I had asked about kineso tape as I'm certified in all modalities and kineso taping, but she told me no to kineso taping except recently she let me try for an acute ankle sprain.
Not for IC, but I know a woman who had this inserted for her back pain. It worked somewhat for a short time, then her body got used to it. She kept making adjustments, but it wasn't a magic answer like she thought it would be. She is still in incredible amounts of pain. (She follows a western medicine approach for her problems). I don't feel it is a good solution to pain and can potentially cause further issues. Pain was always my top IC symptom, but has gradually decreased over time in treatment. After seeing what my friend has gone through with this device however, it doesn't seem worth it at all.
I was given a tens unit two years ago, before treatment, by a physical therapist. In the height of severe pain I did find it helpful at times . It really calmed my central nervous system and, more than anything, was a distraction from the pain. I don't use it anymore but found it somewhat helpful . I don't know anything about how it would effect lymph but I know it can increase blood flow. -Katy
