Surgery?

Ok, needing some positive thoughts and just a couple questions about what I shod stock up on the next couple days before surgery. Because of other issues can't swallow pills so going to be crushing them and wondering if yogurt might not be the best choice with the fat content and GB being removed if I should avoid yogurt? Apples and I don't normally get along causing reflux, but thought on maybe a tiny bit of unsweetened apple sauce would be better? Any other ideas for foods to have on hand or that may be tolerated better after surgery? Thanks for any help you can provide and ease my concerns of what is to come!

Hi CP,

What about non-fat yogurt?  Or pureed veggies in a soup?  I'd imagine a little apple sauce to help get the pills down if you have them with other foods would be more tolerable.  I can't remember what foods you eat right now, but pureed cauliflower with spinach could be OK (well, only for babies and us IC peeps...no one else would like it...)

Wishing you all the best and sending you strength and peace! xxx

Thanks Claire! Not feeling peaceful at all, very overwhelmed and scared! Good suggestions I will try the puréed veggies too.

I make Chris's cauliflower soup and it is sooo good. If you need the recipe let me know. I'm trying to think what else. I am praying for peace and that it will create some relief for you. Hugs

Wishing you the best with your surgery Christina!!  Are you able to have potatoes at all?  Perhaps boil some potatoes so you have some cooked on hand to mash up with butter?  Could you make a thin vegetable or beef broth?  Sorry, I'm not sure what sits well with your belly right now or what you have tried but praying for relief for you from all of this!  You so deserve it.

Thank you all! I made it through, but not without a few issues. Had an asthma attack in recovery, lots of pain meds and anti nausea meds, couldn't pee for 10 hous after surgery, such an urge but just couldn't go. Blood pressures were 90/40's so wasn't helping my dizziness and nausea. Thankfully was able to see Dr. M right after surgery to help my bladder and helpful tips like very hot wash cloths on pubic area and herbs to help. Not tolerating solids or pain meds and feel like my incisions are ripping apart and the incision under my sternum looks and feels like I'm growing a third nipple. The kind of exciting news, the surgeon told my mom my gallbladder and all the tissue around it was very inflamed, even though it never showed up on scans. Proof I wasn't crazy, my GB really was sick not just hyperactive. The surgeon never came to see me after surgery so not sure if they sent tissue off for further pathology, must stop reading what the Internet has to say. So, I'll try to forget what I read. Never got discharge instructions from the surgeon so ca,led her office and said need to see 7-10 days after surgery so I asked should I scheduke my appointment and the earliest I could get in is 20'days post op. Feeling really great about this surgeon! Other than that just trying to deal with referred gas pains that are horrific, but I'm alive and kicking! Can't wait to have this behind me, and see how my body comes along!

I feel like absolute death! I can't breathe, and I hurt so insanely bad, the pain I jad on my right side is so much worse! I want to die! Talked with the surgeon yesterday on the phone and she makes me feel very discouraged and from what I read prior to surgery as well that maybe it isn't going to help. Oh, I hope things start getting better, I have barely slept since surgery and my throat feels like it's closing up, head, ears, and teeth ache so bad! Someone please tell me this is normal! My positive energy is gone!!! This sucks!

Dear Christina,

Are you able to take the pain meds?  Surgery just plain sucks - you're right.  HOWEVER, this is way too early to get discouraged - give your body a chance.  I'm so sorry that you're in so much pain.

Hugs - Denise

Thank you all ladies! It means so much to have you guys to help keep me going. It's just hard now feeling absolutely drained and having more pain still than before surgery, but it has only been a week. Reminding myself this is going to take time. I got some more anxiety provoking news yesterday. I had a scan done on my pelvis and hips because of constant pain and often wakes me at night. I was assuming arthritis or something, not exactly. They found 2 lesions on my spine. It wouldn't be such a concern, its where they are located and that they are symptomatic that makes this very rare and now needing to see a neurosurgeon or oncologist to do a biopy or at least give me a 2nd opinion if need more intense treatment. Feeling a bit overwhelmed!
