Bad flare - reaching out

I have been struggling the last two weeks with a bad flare-up. In general, I've been gradually getting better, but flare-ups like this really get me down. An added challenge is that my husband is going to be gone all week. He and my son are going to Honduras to help put prosthetic legs on people who don't have the means to get one. It's such a needed and noble cause and I'm so proud of both of them. They are helping people to walk again. It's just really bad timing for me to be in so much pain because I won't have his presence and support. It is difficult for me to stand and make my meals and wash dishes, etc. because it makes the pain worse. I wish I had family nearby, but I don't. I have friends who will be coming over to hang out here and there this week, which I am grateful for. I just feel so vulnerable and it's easy for negative and catastrophic thoughts to get in.

Hello Rachel Anne,

It's good to reach out - I'm happy that you found your way here for a little "company."  I'm also happy that the flare is getting better - any idea if something helped kick it in?  Off the topic here - wow - what an incredible family that you have - you must be so proud - although, you're right, the timing sucks.  Anyway - we will all be here this week and hope to make it a little bit better.

Thinking of you,

Denise

Thank you, Denise. I think what kicked it off two weeks ago was (sorry if TMI) my husband touching me down there ever so lightly. He hasn't done that in a long time, but I was feeling courageous, and now it has backfired on me. I've come a long way since a few months ago and have been able to take more walks and do more around the house with less pain, but these kinds of setbacks really discourage me. :(

But, yes I am so proud of my guys!!!

Rachel Ann, we are most definitely here for you. I try to check the forum at least once every day. So very sorry for your flare. I too pray it does not last long. I know you have been through so much. You are a fighter and you WILL get through this!!! And yes so very proud of your son and husband. What a blessing!! Wish I could do more for you. I would cook your meals. Nobody knows the menu like we all do. Hugs to you!

Thanks, Patty. I appreciate the support and the prayers! I am hoping things will calm down in a day or two. My period will be starting and usually I get some relief during that time. Thanks for the hugs and warm thoughts!

It's been a beautiful day here. All the flowers and smells of spring are finally blooming and emanating everywhere.  I took a long walk today to this peaceful marshy area filled with lilypads and turtles and frogs.  There were all these quiet earth and animal sounds and the humming in the spring air with bird and bug wings and I tried to feel all that for you -  I find that connecting with nature is the closest thing I do to praying- and I just wanted you to know that I was holding you in that space.  I hope you get some relief soon and please know we're here for you.

On a practical note, I agree with Deir that if you're alone that you can reach out to friends and tell them what kind of help you need (if you need it).  I'd imagine lots of people would be willing to lend a hand but they often need guidance as to what to do.

And keep contacting us - we're here to support you!  xx - Claire

Thank you, Claire. That is beautiful. I love taking walks on good days. Sometimes I go out on our deck and enjoy watching the birds and squirrels in the trees. I think it is important to be in nature and connect with it too.
