Horrible flare

Hi everyone

I've been in treatment about six months and had seen a.little improvement which I thought was heartening. However, I've been in a huge flare up for six weeks or so and nothing seems to be calming it down. I've got very severe ic, not to say that my suffering is worse than that of others in Any way, but I'm a pretty awful case and I have about a thousand Co conditions. At the moment all bowel activity including taking the herbs causes terrible vulvodynia and urination pain and all foods (even my safe ones) make me feel like I'm urinating razor blades. Boaz is trying his best but we don't seem to be able to shake it. Im really beside myself as I felt so hopeful that maybe I would be ok eventually and now it's like being back at the beginning :(

I am so sorry Katie, it is so hard to be in a flare. I am presently struggling with one and found asparagus water to be so soothing. I am not sure if you can tolerate asparagus, but what I did was to chop up 5 or six stalks and pour water over to cover with a pinch of salt. I simmered for 4 to 5 min and then drained the water into a cup and sipped on this while in a very warm sitz bath. You can ask Boaz before trying it, I can tolerate asparagus so it was a big help to me. I pray you are feeling relief soon. Sending a big hug to you.

When you urintate try taking a very hot facecloth and hold it "there" when you are urintating. The heat can be soothing for the razor blade feeling. I hope you find releif soon.

Thanks edwena

I'll definitely give that a go. I know I need a protocol change but I haven't had a reply from boaz for a couple of days so I'm not sure whether to stop everything or not :/

Hello Katiekook. I know how crazy making these nasty flares can be! I remember having very long flares that seemed unbearable. They actually got worse and longer in my first year of treatment. Remember that part of this is the cleansing process. Sometimes an herb will trigger cleansing and the only way out is through. It is important to know that this is one of the difficult parts of treatment. I, like you, have a lot of co-conditions that make my journey a little more wind-ey and a little longer than many others. However, if you stick with it, you will get through the dark times. Use heat, like a heating pad, or Bucky-buckwheat pillow you can heat in micro. I put those on my bladder area when i am hurting. Drink lots of water to flush. I know how it can feel like there's nowhere to be safe, no way to get comfy, no comfort food, even. That's so hard. Just remind yourself if you can that this is temporary. Know that this is part of the process. Do every comforting self care you can. HANG IN THERE! It will get better, slowly-way too slowly-but surely!   Sending hugs.

Thank You Julie,

Unfortunately the flare is getting worse, all of my other symptoms are resurfacing, the vuvlodynia pain and perineal discomfort. I am so frightened at the moment. Boaz is doing everything he can but, as usual, my body will do nothing to comply. I think it started off after a week ofhaving to takeadrugfor myback pain (I have since stoipped taking it) but now the flare just gets worse and worse. I'm not sure if he'll be able to bring meback from this :(

Katie- don't give up. You will not always feel as bad as you do today. Just do whatever you need to do to get through. (((HUG)))

Hi Katie,

Hang in there and try to stay positive...it won't always be this way, you will feel better. It usually doesn't happen in our preferred timing, but I promise this too shall pass.  A really effective pain reliever for me is doing a castor oil pack over my bladder, which Boaz confirmed is okay to do.

Here is a link on how to do them: http://wellnessmama.com/35671/castor-oil-packs/

Cheap supplies can be found at:  http://www.vitacost.com

When my symptoms are really bad I will sleep with one through the night over my bladder, and when I'm just needing some pain relief through the day I'll lay on the couch for an hour or two with a pack. Usually, about 15-20 minutes into using one it feels like my insides start to relax and calm down.  I know castor oil packs are good for reducing inflammation so maybe that is what I'm feeling. Sending love and healing vibes.
