Hi everyone,
I'm Vicky (from Europe) and I will be a new patient within a couple of months, I decided to go to Matia because I found so much hope in all your stories.
I don't know if I have ic, but my biggest problem is urethral pain.  I have continuous pain and burning and often a feeling of urge, but I don't have the frequency problem.  After urinating I always get a lot more pain.
I'm already trying to change my diet and since I stopped eating sugar I feel worse than before, do many people feel worse at the beginning?  My urethra now burns and itches 24/7.
Although I believe in the treatment, I'm also very scared that it will not work for me, but I read that all of you had to go through this difficult stage and that you all began to feel better after some time, so it's really important to be patient and to keep faith.
Thank you all for sharing your stories, I hope I have also found my road to recovery...
Vicky

Welcome! From what I understand and have actually read here - there is some considerable berth to what qualifies as IC. I was never officially diagnosed with it because I felt that the procedure was extremely invasive and had heard it can make people's pain worse. Many of us have experienced a worsening of syntoms with a change in diet or  medicinal formula - this could mean that the microbes/yeast in your tissues are freaking out without the sugar to feed on? It could also be possible die off syntomns which are actually normal in the cleansing process. When I started the diet I actually felt a little worse its true- when I got to visit Matia and she gave me the  formula unique for what my syntomsn were  for bringing down all the inflammation in my body then combined with the diet I noticed an improvement. Its so specific! What you desrcibe sounds like a urinary issue and regardless of whether or not its IC I beleive she  will treats what is going on with your system. I have heard of syntomsn similiar to what you describe. In fact I have expereinced intense urethral pain too. If you stick strictly to Matia's guidance and protocal than you should in time experience improvement. We have all felt like we were the only ones that would never get better and I have had IC for a long time and systemic candida most of my life but I am improving greatly in the last 6 months. Yes you can feel worse and better in the beginning but eventually you feel better and better more of the time. Hang in there!Mary

Hi Mary,Thank you very much for your reply, I really find a lot of support in all your answers and stories.I'm very happy for you that you are getting better! My mother used to have ic as well, but after 2 years she had bladder-washouts (I don't know if this is the correct translation) and she got a lot better. So I know where it comes from, she also had constant yeast infections like me.After reading icaroadtorecovery I got very interested in the treatment, because it's so similar to my health situation.  It started with IBS about 10 years ago, then I had surgery for mild endometriosis and then I developed the urethra/bladder problems.Just like you I didn't want to go through all the invasive examinations, because I didn't want the pain to get worse.  One urologist told me that my urethra looks completely inflamed, but they don't know why so I just had to learn to live with it.  I had already found Matia's website and I was fed up with western medicine, they had never helped me before so I knew that they couldn't help me with the urethra problems.I have been thinking about it for a long time because I live in Belgium, so it will be a long journey, but I just want to try to get my life back.  I'm happy that I have a wonderful boyfriend who is very understanding and he will go to LA with me.I will certainly keep reading all your messages because it always gives me hope when someone is getting better, and you are all improving, it's wonderful!Vicky

Hi VickyI suffer from the same urethral pain that you are describing, but I do not suffer from it 24/7 and mostly it is food or chemical driven, however it has taken me nearly 2 years to have good and bad days.  My bladder reacts on the odd occasion  but definately not as it did when I was first diagnosed with IC. I did however undergo the diagnoses for IC, I think knowing that I definately had the condition, has helped me cope with having this alot better. I am also flying into see Matia in March this year, and I am very excited to make this journey with my husband, we are flying 13 hours from Australia. It has taken me nearly 2 years since this illness eventuated to make an appt to see matia not because of the financial cost, but purely due to the fact that I had not found peace with myself. I did not want to make the journey and not make the committment to myself or my family. I think being happy and grateful and loving my life despite what IC has done to me and my family has reduced my pain significantly and given me those good days. Now I feel I am ready to recieve the help from Matia and let her guide me the rest of the way. I do have my days when I think that maybe it won't work due to the fact that my urethral pain sometimes gets worse when I take certain herbs/food etc even though it may not initally react. I am willing to give it a try and tell my IC to get lost.I feel extremly happy with my lot, I have the most perfect loving man and two brilliant sons and I am alive, who said winning the lottery was better. All the best with your journey and know that you are not aloneGreta

Greta, I'm so happy to see you are finding your way to see Matia. I saw your earlier posts several weeks back and have wondered about you. I started treatment in Oct 08 and I'm feeling much better. I'll be looking for your posts and would love to hear about your progress. Tammy

Hi, I have just come back from a holiday in NZ and have just checked the forum. It is so nice to hear that someone has remembered me. I run scared sometimes with forums. It sometimes feels like giving a stronger hold on my IC.  I am seeing Matia on the 11th March and doing the big 15 hour flight from Brisbane in Australia. I am more nervous about the flight than the treatment and leaving my babies at home. Somehow I didn't envision my first trip to the USA would be for IC. Never mind, my husband is doing the journey with me as I don't think I could manage the LAX airport on my own. In the USA for 4 days so will manage to see a few of the sights.I will definately post my progress, as I feel very excited.

Hi Greta,I am also going to see Matia in March   I think we have to fly 10 hours, it will be a long journey for both of us.  Are you staying longer in LA or just one or two days? You are right, family and friends are very important when you have to go through a lot of health problems.I also have a wonderful boyfriend and wonderful parents, they are always there for me when I'm feeling down. It's nice to hear that you also have good days, I hope you will soon feel better when you start treatment.I'm always having different health problems, one month I can have constant urethra burning and the next month I'm having continuous abdominal pain, it's always something else. Are there other people with endometriosis that are following (or have followed) the treatment?  When I'm not taking the birth control pill, I have a lot of pain from endometriosis, but I now that I have to hold on because the hormones are really bad for my health.Vicky

Hi Vicky, my appt with Matia is on the 11th March and we are flying into LAX on the 10th March and leaving on the 14th. We have just come back from a 3 week trip to NZ so my hubby is having to take sick leave to come with me. It is a 15hour flight from our end and we lose 2 days when coming home, so the plan is that hubby will go straight to work on the monday when we arrive home. Lucky him. It has been a mission organising baby sitters, flights etc but feeling on top of things now. I also suffer from a few things brought on by my IC. I got diagnosed before xmas with IBS and I also have polycystic ovaries and alot of digestive issues. I am not on any treatment for these as alot of western medicine really irritates my urethra so I go cold turkey. I am sure matia will have something up her sleeve to help with your combination of problems. I read her dissertion which has case studies with different symptoms and her treatment sounded very positive. I think the number one rule for all us new people is to be PAITIENT!!!

Hi Greta, so it's about 2 months for us before we go to LA, my appointment is on March 25 and we will also stay for a couple of days.I hope you had a nice holiday with your husband!I read that many people also suffer from other things, probably it's all connected...Indeed patience is the number one rule for all of us!  I used to be a very impatient person but the last couple of years I have changed due to all health problems.Good luck with your journey, I hope we will soon hear from you once you have started the treatment.Vicky

Hi VickyI am sorry that I will miss you. I was originally going to see Matia on the 25th March at 12pm but due to babysitting issues I rescheduled earlier. What a shame it would have been great to be able to put a face to a name and offer support in person. Where abouts in Europe do you come from? You will most definately hear from me from time to time. All the best.Greta

Hi Greta,Indeed it would have been great to meet eachother
I'm glad that it's not long anymore before we can start treatment.  The last couple of weeks I have been feeling very bad, also emotionally.  I know that stress is not good and that it makes everything even worse, but sometimes I just cannot cope with all the health problems and I'm feeling quite depressed lately.  I will also keep you informed, I wish you all the best.Vicky
