Has anyone had pain after / not able to tolerate manicures? I don't even get mine done in a salon -- do it at home -- and with non-toxic plant-based brand No Miss -- but still think I might be reacting afterwards. Sometimes it's hard to say as my normal pain level is up and down. Also hard to believe as I had IC for years and never noticed any problems after manicures (my trigger was always sex)... so I'm wondering if Dr. B's treatment makes the body more sensitive and thus susceptible?
I've never had manicures but
I've never had manicures but I have noticed a greater sensitivity to smells, chemicals, and foods when I am taking certain things, esp probioticsicnot4me

Manicures
I just want to add that I have had chemical sensitivities for many years now. The manicure places in the mall bother me so bad that I have a hard time even walking past them. The same thing happens when I pass the beauty salons. The more you are exposed the worse it gets.
I had a terrible reaction to
I had a terrible reaction to formaldehyde in all the nail polishes, top coats, etc., especially to the product called Nail Magic. Since I started the treatment, I do my own nails, and there are two brands of nail polishes that you should have no problem with, they are formaldehyde free: ZOYA and DURI, awesome colors and superior quality too. I don't use base or top coats though.
Clarification
Thanks to the responses, but curious if you have BLADDER flares/reactions after manicures or just sensitive to the smell?
I used non-toxic No Miss polish (plant solvents) and did so at home w/ a window open.
Yes, I absolutely did have
Yes, I absolutely did have flareups because of formaldehyde. I don't think I was ever sensitive to smells, but my bladder would not take it. Horrible reaction: burning, dryness, etc. I imagine I would still react badly to it, would not even want to try.

Hmm.. strange b/c I'm using a natural non-toxic brand, No Miss - no formadehyde or other bad stuff. But still is plant solvents which do have fumes so I'm wondering if that's the problem. Do the brands you recommended have any smell/fumes to them?
(And thanx for replying)
Lisa: I am not sure, since

I am not sure, since smells never were an issue for me, I have tons of colors at home so I will be more than happy to send you one to try, I don't think you can easily find them in stores. You can just try it on one or two nails and see what happens.
Let me know!
i was on the search for this
i was on the search for this myself being that I work in the beauty industry. I tried some water based nail polish. I didn't flair on it but it didn't last on my hands only my toes. I suspect because I was my hands more often then my feet.
The reason I tried the water based ones because I can't use the remover even. I have strong sensitivities to chems and the smells. I have gotten better about this but I choose to use natural cleaners and such. AVON makes these nail stick on decals and they were great no smells because you just stick them on your fingers and they lasted months the only problem was I still had to take them off with nail polish remover and that stuff kills me. I get an instant headache. I always have my eyes peeled out for a better pollish but for now i just buff them and don't worie about it unless I am at a wedding or something of that nature where I need to do it. I go outside when i do it.
water based nail polish
Nicole, What water based nail polish do you use?
Nail polish remover
What do you use to remove your nail polish?
they have a remover I used
they have a remover I used acquarellapolish there is also one called suncoat. I found this worked better on my toes then my fingers. When I used it on my fingernails it only lasted for the day. I haven't tried other brands. YOu need to make sure to really buff and clean your nails before doing it.
no miss remover
Hi Lisa, Just wanted to let you know you are not the only one. I had a bladder flare and a really bad reaction to the " No-Miss " nail polish remover. There are some ingredients in there, that I have no clue what they are. Maybe researchnerd can help us figure out what in there is flaring us.Most nail polishes tend to focus on the formeldahyde, tolune, and acetone being the villains and advertise being formeldahyde , acetone and tulane free.I think it is really misleading. It is like Sugar-free products. OK, it is sugar free, but is the substitute necessarily a better alternative. My body is telling me no with the nail polish remover.I then tried 2 acetone free removers, again horrible bladder flares. But guess what? Ironically I did not have a flare to plain, cheap old acetone. It was all the fancy shmancy alternatives that I was reacting to.All the bestCecilia
