I am having a challenging time moving from List one to List two. Everything seems to set off flaring, although I do wonder if I ate nothing, I would still have problems. It is a real treat for me to have a salad (iceberg lettuce, celery and olive oil) and have eaten one a day for several days..no change in any other food. The symptoms gradually got worse after lunch and carried over for rest of day and overnight. Yesterday I left out the olive oil (mixed some cooked broccoli, melted butter and a bit of water for dressing ....I can tolerate these) and reacted less. I wonder if any of you have reactions to olive oil? celery? or for future, cucumber? avocado?..BUT main question for now is Olive Oil? Matia has said that some olive oils have been discovered to contain extender of other oils, like almond, etc. Have any of you found this and/or a truly pure Virgin Olive oil?
Lolo
are you using extra virgin olive oil? If so then there will be major pain- I use plain olive oil and it has been fine. I just use a cheap brand can't recall name. maybe vigo? I have noticed in some pure olive oils they mix it with extra virgin olive oil for some reason! check the labels - test out the different brands- they seem to vary in quality. In the beginning of my switchng to list 2 foods I did react to certain things if I ate more than one type of list 2 food at a time. I reacted a little bit to avocadoes and for some reason not now but at first I got dizzy after eating celery.Even though I reacted to list 2 foods at first I kept waiting and trying each item a little bit at a time to de-sensitize myself to the foods. eventually I got to a point where I could tolerate them no problems and have more than one at a meal. I have to limit cheese though- maybe to one serving once a week as I feel it can cause constipation very fast.
olive oil etc
Thanks Mary, that helps. No EV olive oil for me, but will check labels for mix and keep trying thanks to your encouragement. My symptoms have been purely in the bladder...inflammation and frequency and soreness...the rest of me loves these foods, but not me bladder..I will keep trying though and am grateful for your input...It is so good to crunch celery and lettuce after so many months of consuming rice cakes for texture...Bless ya..Lois
Olive Oil
I was not able to eat olive oil (light) for almost 2 years, even just one drop would make me flare, it would sting and pinch and burn so bad and was just unbearable. When I started having more good days than bad after about 2 years things went better really fast, after I started to be able to eat light olive oil (I think it was after another few weeks) I could eat extra virgin olive oil. And now (in the mean time) a little after 3 years I eat all fruits (accept bananas, Dr Matia says not yet) and I eat all vegetables and all grains and really everthing else (ofcourse I will never eat sugar again).Just to let you know also that it was very hard for me to move off of list #1. I was on list#1 for more than 1 year and even from list#1 I could not tolerate most of the foods. I lived on only 3 vegetables and brown rice and meats for a little over one year (the 1st year). And I had all of these powerful die off symptoms I thought there was not end to this BUT I got better and feel great and so will all of you. Do not worry!Hang in there.Much love fromAngela.

Angela: that is such a help..and your picture of type of pain and discomfort is very akin to mine.I've been so frustrated and pushing through and getting worn down by the pain and lack of sleep. Your description will help me with patience and I WILL hang in there...My diet consists of 2 veggies, meat, fish and brown rice.....your news encourages me to keep on....I am wondering if here are ny tips for he nighttimes....I am getting up to bathroom every 2 to 3 hours and never feel I have a good night's sleep....I've thought of taking melatonin or he likr, but don't want to interrupt the treatment....thank you...with love, Lois.

Hi Lois,I did not take anything for sleep, or for any of the other discomforts. It is a long long road for some people.I was like that too. It is very very difficult. It takes time to get better. You will see.You will get better.Much love.Angela

I have the sleep problem too due to having to get up. I have had nights of four fiv and six hours of sleep but I do have quite a few nights of getting up every 2-3 hours. This has been what has stopped me from resuming my job full time. Thanks Angela for coming back to give us encouragement. I am sorry you took so long to get well but happy for you that you are so well now. It helps to hear that it can take so long when you are thinking you should be well by now. I for sure have improved so much in 9 months but do have a ways to go.I think that I will try the henna but a little afraid of the color. Maybe will wait till I am off of work for a longer period.
shampoo/ henna color etc,
What I did the 1st time I tried henna is, I put only a little henna on the inside near my neck and let it sit for several hrs and see how it came out. This is how I learned. For Shampoo I have been using Dr Matia's liquid soap www.bomasense.com since the beginning of the treatment. I never use conditioner, so I do not know about conditioner. Maybe anyone else or you will need to ask Dr Matia.
Olive Oil
I think extra virgin olive oil is more acidic than the lighter olive oil. Also, celery is high in oxalates. Some people with IC do not tolerate foods high in oxalates.
olive oil etc
Thanks Clueless...a good tip re celery..it looks so safe an uninteresting, but oh the thrill of chomping on it....oh well..will check it out. I cut out the olive oil (not extra virgin) for 2 days now and have had improvement. When things level off I'll give light olive oil a try...so glad you and all ic sisters are there...lois
