Forums:

Hi everyone my name is Amy. I am a new patient I have been on the diet two

weeks. I have really enjoyed reading these forums and was hoping someone

might have some encouraging words. The first week of the diet was good and I

had some really good days. However the past two days my pain has increased

considerably. Its very hard to control the scary thoughts like this won't work,

you are going to have this forever! I think the reason I am feeling pain is I tried

coffe this morning. Matia gave me the green light on coffee and I have been so

tired so I had some. I believe 100% in this treatment and am willing to give it

the necessary time. But if there is anyone out there doing better. I would love to

hear their story Thanks everyone :)

HI Amy,
welcome to the group. I know how you feel about having scary symptoms. Matia once told me that sometimes when your immune system is being stimulated it can cause more pain. I always try to keep a very detailed journal so that I can go back to it in time of need. Also it makes appointments much easier. Also I make sure to note my accomplishments so that when i am having that bad day when i am not sure if I am moving forward I have it in black and white that I AM GETTING BETTER. I AM ON MY PATH TO WELLNESS and so are you. Try not to think about the future too much just live in the moment as much as you can it will go alot better if you can do that. You are doing the right thing and you can get well Maybe read some stories to reinforce it. The little things positive thread is a good post to read too.
I know all to well about fatigue it will get better in time. I personally don't think coffee is a great thing I am often suprised that Matia alows it but I think it's because this is already so hard. for me Green tea was much better on my bladder you might want to consider it and ask her if you might try it. You might also see that as you get better things you didn't realize were bothering you are bothering you now. It's not because your getting worse it's just because your more intuned. Remember it's not forever.
Be well and I look forward to hearing of your progress

Welcome Amy to ICAMA,Congratulations on your new found path to wellness! I second everything Nicole said- she has great advice always! In the beginning your discomfort levels can be all over the place- one day you feel pretty good and the next day totally aweful- it is normal to bounce back and forth for quite awhile. In early treatment there is a ton of cleansing going on as well as efforts to bring down inflammation. You can be SUPER sensitive to things in your environment- for example yesterday afternoonmy office brought in carpet cleaning people and the fumes began to bother me. everyone left to let the cleaners do their thing but I spent a little while breathing in the fumes and last night I felt some irritation that I am positive is related to being exposed to such intense chemicals. Make sure your soap lotion dish soap-makeup - ANYTHING that goes in or on your body is safe for IC patients. if you aren't sure ask Matia- also keep in mindthat if you feel a big jump in your discomfort levels- check your ingredients in your food - stick with the same spring water and BE ABSOLUTELY strict as possible in following the diet protical to the letter. After a while it seems like people kind of balence in their symptoms and are more aware of the things that can set them off.-usually if a food isn't right for you you can tell within a 1/2 hour to few hours of conmsuming it!  If you are ever in terrible distress or think the formula you are on needs a tweak than don't hesitate to shoot Matia a short email to let her know. Because this treatment can take a long time to recover from and because we can sometimes have rough spells of yeast die off and irritation/frequency new symptoms cropping up as a result of the body shedding old and yucky toxins- the fear can creep in and take hold. negative thoughts, depression, anxiety and tons of werid and disturbing symptoms can happen in this cleansing treatment process. If you have a scary symptom you can post about it- 9 x times out of 10 its one one of us or many of us have felt before and usually temporarily. Alot of symptoms come on quickly and leave just as mysteriously/quickly. Nearly everyone of us has had the discourging thought that "I'm not going to ever get better- but the reality is if you wrk hard and stick with it improvements will happen. even the most stubborn of IC cases have expereinced improvement and continue to move forward however slowly that might be... it all kind of depends on many factors. You will get better. The treatment of this protical is genious and it works.  Time and tenacious effort are required in this battle.  If you need support ever and this goes to anyone out there lurking- or new patients or older patients- feel free to post and you will get some encouragment. if you ever have a question or feel down whatever... we try to keep in positive around here. I've been in treatment for 10 months. I am seeing real improvemtns but I still have along way to go until I am healthy but my improvements are not imaginings by any means. I have had very good days and I ahve had some really crappy ones too. Without a doubt this is the hardest challenge I have ever understaken and its shaping up to be a kind ground breakingamazing journey. You will get sooo strong in spirit as well as body. many people do report an increase in symptoms early in treatment. keep a detailed record of your diet and fluctuations in your condition. they are really great clues as to what is happening for Matia in your appointments with her. Its easy to forget all that is happening. You found a good place! Hurray!Peace be with you.Mary

Welcome Amy.  I am glad that you found your way here.  I won't repeat everything that has already been said.  I will say that it is normal to question what you are doing when you are not feeling well and especially worse.  I have gone through this and at times still do.  What is improtant is that you keep in touch with Matia because she needs to know how your feeling in case changes need to be made.  I am 10.5 months into treatment and have improved quite a lot but do have a ways to go.  I just went through a bit of a difficult time and now finally I think things are settling again but it took a number of changes in supplements.  I was again scared but am again seeing the light.  My fear for sure is much less than it used to be because I have had many improvements.  With this disease it is very normal to have low expectations but I read the stories of success and know that it is possible to get there with very hard work and determination.   I also remind myself where I was a year ago and see I have come along way.
