Does anyone have any tips on how to get cat urine smell out of the house.

My cat has always been an out door cat. He has liver cancer and is old though and now i have to have a box. It stinks even changing it mulitiple times a day. I think its worse then it normally would be because he has an infection going on.

I don't know what to do because I feel like it's flairing me. I don't want to put him down becuase he is actually getting better but i know he probly will not make it too long since he is 16.

Everything I have tired isn't helping and is actually making me flair really bad.

I would love some sugestions.

Hi Nicole:  Sorry to hear about your cat.  I had to put mine down about three years ago at age 11 as he had an embolism.  Very upsetting.  My daughter now has a cat that is an indoor cat and his urine sure was smelly.  I tried lots of things.  I find that the crystal type litter seems to stop the smell more than other types of litter and we tried all kinds.  Funny thing this cat has always had bladder problems and can have only one type of food.  We can relate lol.....

Thanks Kristy,
cats aren't suposed to have grains but I didn't find this out until too late I think. He was always over weight and very picky high anxiety. When i found out about the grains I tried numerous foods for cats that were grain free. He wouldn't touch any of them. I started to make his own food. I don't think I was doing this quite right. When I would add his supplments he would refuse to eat it too. I just recently put him on Wysong but I can't get it in the store I have to order it.Not all of there foods are grain free but most of them are. I am not sure about the diet compleetly still I have to do more research on it. I know that cats do eat grass in the wild but it's certain kinds and I am not sure about that either.
I have been cleaning all day and I put him outside for the first time in about a week today. I think I may have gotten rid of the smell for now. I used some dawn mixed with salt.  I will try changing his litter thanks for the advise on that. He really doesn't even make it to his box all the time. The poor guy just soils his bed at night and i have to clean it every day.I think i will get some baking soda deturgent.

If you google pet urine stains, you will find some good homemade remedies. I had a friend's dog stay with me for a weekend and he peed all over the house on my wall to wall carpeting.  I mixed a concoction together i found from google and it worked great!!  It took a while to dry, but after a couple days it was fine, except it did fade/bleach the carpet slightly.  I used a steam cleaner after that to do the rest of the carpet and it turned out great!  I can't even tell anymore.

Thanks Everyone the salt and dawn dish soap seem to be doing the trick. :)
