Hello, and going dairy free

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to ICAMA, and I've just booked my appointment with Matia. I'm going to see her at the end of July. I'm really excited to start treatment, I've been following her site for quite a while in deciding if it was the right treatment for me, and everyone here seems really supportive, and I'm excited that I'm going to get better!! I live in Canada, so I'll be treated long distance.

In the meantime, I want to start on the diet but I don't eat eggs or dairy of any kind.

In attempting to treat my IC so far, I saw a naturopath who suggested I take dairy out of my diet, and it actually helped. I was tested for food allergies, and the results suggested I'm really sensitive (rather than allergic to) eggs. I took those out too, and that helped. Obviously it hasn't completely dealt with the problem, but I'm hesitant to re-introduce them into my diet.

I notice that butter and eggs are both staples in the list one diet (eggs particularly for breakfast) but I'm wondering if anyone else does the diet without eating eggs or butter?

I've been using soy margarine to  replace butter, but I notice that soy is a no-no.

Should I put butter and eggs back into my diet, or are there other ways to deal with this?

Does anyone on list one have breakfast ideas other than eggs?

Thanks =)

Welcome Pink Lady.  I too am from Canada, British Columbia actiually.  I went to see Matia last May.  As for breakfast on list one I don't have many ideas other than to replace the eggg protein with perhaps some ground turkey patties and to have that with spelt or kamut bread.  I usually always add some cucumber in the morning.  I was getting tired of the eggs and that is when Matia told me to make some of the ground turkey paties or make them into sausage form.  Good luck maybe others have some other ideas would love to hear.

I tested positive for allergy to eggs too and took them out of my diet for several years.  I didn't notice much difference, so I added them back in but I don't eat them often now.  I also took milk out of my diet, but I do eat some cheese sometimes and I have always eaten butter.  I buy organic butter to avoid the growth hormone and pesticides.  I think using butter is okay, but I think milk isn't the best idea.  For breakfast I usually eat fish and red potatoes.   I seem to do well on potatoes, and the red ones are lowest in starch of all the potatoes out there.  You could use any other meat with the potatoes if you don't like fish.  I think Matia might allow the yeast free kamut or spelt bread on the first list but not sure.  You could always eat toast but you also need a protein.  I think some people might eat avocado's as a starch.  I don't tolerate them, but if you do, you could use them.  Other people on the board might have some other ideas.  Good luck with your upcoming treatment.  You are wise to start the diet now.  Here's to better health!

hey there! when i first started treatment i had an allergy food testing done also and it came back i was sensitive to many foods, gluten and eggs. i have talked to matia about this and she told me i didnt have to worry about it and that i can eat it. i think all of us have food sensitivies due to our immune systems being out of balance. unless u are noticing alot of pain with the food, i wouldnt worry about it!

Wow! I'm so happy that I've had so many responses already! Thanks very much for your suggestions.
I do experience pain when eating eggs or milk products (except for butter, I don't notice any pain with butter) So maybe for now, I'll re-instate butter, and stay away from eggs and milk.
Fish and potatoes are a good idea. I'll try that. I can see I'm going to need to get up a lot earlier in the morning... nothing is quite as quick as cereal!
Does anyone else on the diet (not necessarily list 1) drink rice milk?
And more ideas on non-egg breakfasts are welcome too.
Torey, I think you have a point about our immune systems... maybe the food sensitivities will go away with treatment?
Thanks again everyone.

When I eat eggs I itch like crazy now.  I tried it at first with this diet, but the more I ate them...the more I would itch, itch, itch!
I to am going to see Matia (in Jne).  I am super excited!!! I feel like as long as I do what I am advised to do and stick to plan that I am going to get better.  I am at my witts end so I intend to beleive nothing but this.
For breakfast I am eating toasted spelt bread with organic butter.  I have grown to love it.  I also eat a baggie full of celery and quite suprisingly I am loving that to.  I do eat one thing off of list 2, and that is avacados.  They do not bother my bladder at all.  What I tried this morning was toasted spelt bread, with butter, and then I mashed up half an avacado (like guacamole with salt) and spread that over my toast and oh my, it was absolutely delish!
I am also going to make the homemade turkey patties tonight.  This will be a new one on my list.  I am going to make extra so I have some for tomorrow and saturday morning breakfast.  Tonight I am going to eat a piece of spelt bread (toasted), steamed cauliflower, and the homemade turkey sausage.  Yum! (ha, never thought I would think that)
I will share any other ideas I come up with if this brain starts getting a little more creative through time and desperation ;)

yes matia says the food sensitivites will go away once our bodies are in balance. since testing gluten sensitivie i always worry about it but she told not to worry about eating it. when your immune system is out of balance i think pretty much any food we eat could cause a reaction.the yeast in our body are causing these problems. unless its bothering your bladder,it shouldnt be a prob!

What I do to make things easier in the morning is cut up the red potatoes and microwave them ahead of time.  I make a casserole dish full (enought for a few days) and keep them in the fridge.  They are easy to pull out in the morning and just microwave for a quick hot breakfast.  I also use fish that I have cooked the day before (leftovers from a meal usually).  You can also freeze portions of fish and just thaw them out the night before.  I never spend much time actually "cooking" breakfast.

I live in Canada and the brands we have are made at local bakeries.  I always find them at organic smaller types of stores.  They don't seem to ever be sold at your mainstream grocery stores.  If you have some smaller organic stores in your area look at those kinds of stores.

It is in the freezer section of our health food store- a local southeast chaincalled Earth Fare. also for those later in treatment? maybe list 2-3 I have eaten this very grainy loaf as my carb servingits very cakey and crumbly and its pretty good. It didn't bother my body.   It's a millet rice loaf - Nature's Path is the brand.Mary
