It's not really bacon...

Hi Everyone,

I am on list one of the diet (I'm going to see Matia in July) and I'm trying to work out some kinks:

1. I found bacon at a farmers market that is not cured or salted or anything. It's just strips of pork. It's nice to have for an occaisonal treat as a breakfast protein (especially since presently I can't have eggs) but I don't know if it's allowed. Does anyone know?

2. I used to drink rice milk -- it's brown rice pressed with filtered water. No sugar or anything added -- does that make it ok?

Thanks!

This bacon would be okay as it is just pork with nothing on it.  I think that I know what you are talking about as I have had it.  It is the way that it is sliced that makes it bacon.  My inlaws are farmers and in the past I have had this.  For myself I seem to have a bit of a problem with pork but I don't think that this is typical for most.  I would go for it as long as it is plain meat and you are okay with it.  I can't comment on the rice milk but I do know as I have gone through the lists the first type of milk I could have was almond milk without flavoring or sugar.

I do not think you can have rice milk on list one even tho it is just rice. I recalll her telling me no a while back on this one. I would imagine its fine later on. I think in this form even though theres no added sugar its high in sugar and wouldn't be balanced out is my thinking. You might want to ask her personally because her answer might be different for you. For now I would omit it if you can.I know if you do consume it also it would need to have the protien ratio and veggies so I don't know what kind of  meal your having with it? Are you drinking it or having cereal with it? IF your having it in cereal that is a 2x carb probly not a good idea. If your using it to make a sauce maybe it would be fine because it's just a small amount. So theres that factor too. Just some things to think about.Make sure your ratios are with in the guide lines of the diet.

Re Bacon: Found out that it's smoked, which someone else mentioned is a bad thing. I'll stay away from it and have a look for stuff that is just thinly sliced pork.

Re Rice Milk: I never thought of the carb to veggie/protein ratio. I used to have rice milk on cereal, but since starting the diet, I haven't had any cereal (it all has sugar and forbidden stuff anyway). I was just thinking for recipes. I guess I'll wait to see Matia before I put rice milk back into my diet.

Thanks for your help!
