Do you have problems with grains

I went off grains this week and my bladder is feeling better.  This morning, I forgot about my bladder for two whole hours!  Last night, I ate two pieces of Kamut bread to see if it would bother me. I had an increase in pain three hours later.  For those of you that have (or had) trouble tolerating grains, how long after you eat them do your symptoms seems to worsen?

I do not tolerate kumut or spelt, the only grain I am ok with is brown rice and brown rice cakes, and its only in small amounts.  I get a burning urethra with the other grains and frequency within 2 hours of eating it.

My diet was pretty easy until I went off grains.  I used to eat 2-3 eggs in the morning with spelt toast.  This week, I am eating eggs with potoatoes since my order of spelt bread has not arrived.  The quiche recipes on the site are good as well.  I am trying to train myslef to eat a veggie with each meal and snack.  Broccoli and Zuchini make great breakfast vegetables.  This morning I made a pretend omlette using egg, ground beef, and no cheese.  Matia adds mozarella cheese pretty early for most people.  I can't tolerate it yet. For lunch, I usually eat a big salad and have leftovers from the night before.  For me, it is critical to eat a salad at lunch to keep my digestion working at it's best.     This week my husband made the best soup (I had a cold so I may change my mild next week LOL)!  He boiled three chicken legs and finely chopped cabbage in water for 4 mintues and then simmered them for 15 more minutes.  Then he added cooked rice and deboned the chicken legs. This soup would have tasted great with dill or basil.   We use a fancy sea salt for variety.  Next time, I am going to make this soup in a crockpot for a bolder flavor.   I am into grilling right now (turkey, hamburgers, steak, lamb, fish, pork, chicken, shrimp....)  I make a roast every Sunday in the crockpot.  My husband and kids love a nice cut of meat with a baked potatoe or rice. Sweetpotatoes are great for the other members of your family.  We bake, mash, ot fry the potatoes.  I eat brocolli, cauliflower, yellow squash, or zuchini in various combinations.   Once I can tolerate grains, I am going to make zuchini muffins, spelt totillas, and pancakes.  If you need to maintain your weight, I would suggest eating at least four meals a day.  I didn't realize that I would lose weight going off of dairy.  Hope this helps!

I have had a major problem with grains and it was kinda weird because the only thing I could tollerate was the rice tortillas by food for life on list 3 says Matia but not noted on the list so you have to ask her that.
I am not offically on list 3 but it was the only thing till recently 14 months in now i am back on red potatos. YAY. I plan on making some kind of gluten free bread eventually. I know that it's no uncomon to have a grain sensitivity if you have one it tends to be really bad its like either you DO or ya don't kinda thing. It does get better and know that you just have to find something that works for you and know it's not forever.

I have always had a problems with grains, but usually just with whole grains.  I don't tolerate the kamut or spelt breads very well.  I don't tolerate brown rice either.  I do tolerate potatoes, so I eat a lot of those.

After being with Matia for a couple of years and graduating to list 3... i decided to pull wheat AND gluten from my diet... With in 3 weeks, I am down 8 pounds and my stomach has gone WAY down.  You must remember that gluten is in wheat, kamut, rye, spelt, etc... Best to go on a celiacs website to find out spefics... Many researchers say that gluten (which is the protein in wheat that gives bread dough its elasticity) closely mimics a protein located to the cell wall of yeast.  When your immune system attacks an invader (yeast) it looks for proteins on the cell walls of invaders to identify as your own body or invader.  This protein on the cell wall of yeast is very similar to gluten... So when you ingest gluten from wheat/spelt/oats/rye/kamut your body reacts to it.  Remember... your bladder gets all the waste products you produce.. so if your body is reacting with an immune response... then you have all that junk going to the bladder... which is inflammed... Since I Have gone off gluten... my bladder is sooo much better. I have read many celiac patient's reports that they were also diagnosed with IC and then when they figured out they had celiacs, they went off gluten and their "IC" went away.  Sooo. defintiely a consideration.  Most likely.. until you get the yeast out of your body completely, you shouldn't eat gluten containing products.  Good luck... I only eat rice and potatoes and sooo much happier.  I soo don't care about gluten anymore...

I have been gluten free for years because of a gliadin allergy.  The only grains I've been able to tolerate are brown rice, rice cakes, and rice crackers.  Sometimes I try red potatoes or white rice and I think it is okay.  I used to handle potato chips and brown rice tortillas but lately its really bad for me.  This diet is really hard for me because I haven't been able to add anything new because of urethritis problems.  I can't wait for the day I can eat things and not worry about my reaction to it and inflammation and pain!

do any of you know why/how it is that you can be okay with grains early in treatment and then suddenly start reacting to them later in treatment? i thought it was supposed to go the other way around. i used to be totally fine with all grains, so i went off them for a few months, then i recently started up with rice again but think i might be reacting. it's subtle, like a surge in vv irritation about 3 hours later, but it sort of passes. really not sure. anyway, i was trying to explain to my husband how this often happens at different times in treatment - the intolerance to grains - but neither of us really understand why or how that works. anyone know?

I actually was the same way, but difficult to tell... When I was first in treatment, I was in a lot of discomfort, so it was difficult to tell what I was reacting too.  Finally I got to the point where my bladder was MUCH better, but other things were wrong.  I noticed that immediately when I would eat spelt bread, my mouth would get super itchy/numb/ just weird, actually my mouth felt very much like how my bladder felt.  I totally went off all gluten products and feel soo much better.  this is not weird at all.

I do not tolerate kumut bread, the yeast and sugar free kind from Whole foods.  I just realized it has wheat in it.  I looked at the label on the back and it says, contains wheat.

JUST FYI it takes 6 months for gluten to leave your body intirly.
