Does anyone know if we are allowed to take advil?

I am on day 4 of a SEVERE headache because my cycle is coming (never happens to me and my last 2 cycles have had terrible headaches)  and I just can't take it anymore.  I really would like to take some advil to get relief but do not know how much it will affect treatment.

Thanks.

Becky

If you have not- I would write Matia about your headaches and perhaps she can make an adjustment in your formula - taking large amounts of advil over time really contributed to my IC- so it can be a negative influence in treatment BUT... if its a temporary thing and just to get you through a bad place then maybe it would be ok.  and in the beginning of treatment my menstrual cramps were still so bad I had to take a little advil to get me through the worst days. She always said to take as little as possible and eventually got me to a point where I didn't need any at all. ALWAYS ASK Matia if you are thinking of taking an OTC - because these things really can impact us in a bad way. Hope your headaches go away quickly and stop coming at all. Your cycle is going to improve tremendously- do not worry! Mary

I totally understand your massive headaches....I get them before my period, too.  For emergencies I've used tyenol but it usually did nothing for my pain.  I think advil is worse than tyenol when it comes to ic stuff.  Of course, ask Matia before taking anything.  I hope you feel better soon!

Matia said I could take Naproxyn for menstral cramps.  It is suposed to be good for headaches too.  I am not sure if it is the best medication for pain in your situation.  I have needed less and less medication over time.

I think Matia said in her dissertation that it is okay to take Tylenol or Advil for brief periods of time if needed.  She doesn't want people taking it all the time.
