You should honor where you are right now and listen to your body.  I go back and forth between hunger and not at all... I have not been listening to my body and eating when I am not hungry at all in a day.  That is bad.  If my body needs to fast, then I should do it.  If I need to eat, I should do that as well... Listen to your body, it knows what it is doing!

I also get really hungry, its not the empty stomach feeling its more like not feeling satisfied even after eating a big meal.I think I read somewhere that this is normal because we don't absorb all the nutrients a healthy person does, so our bodies want more!I have also wondered if its the yeast crying out for something to feed it.  I TRY to look at it as a good thing but it does make me feel quite drained.  I used to comfort eat a lot and binge eat and its really hard trying to kick that habit.  I always have to have something in the fridge I can pick at quickly and its amazing how rice cakes have even started to taste good now!

It's normal for your appetite to wax and wane. I was amazed at my ability to put down incredible amounts of food in the beginning. I can still do some crazy damage. like full plate of food- a salad and yet another plate of vegetables. You may find a few weeks even from now that you are not hungry- but you eat anyway cause you know you need it. I think it is definately about the nutrients your body is craving- also we don't eat as many carbs as others do or as we used to and those kind of fill you up. I mean broccoli doesn't really STAY with you you know? Mary

I don't have much to add except that 6 months into treatment I'm still hungry all the time....
I think it's kinda weird, but it sounds like others are in the same boat.

Are any of you hungry hippos gaining extra weight?  I know many of us talk about wanting to gain back the scary loss of weight we experience when first sick/in treatment, but I'm talking about later on gaining weight beyond what you need?
B/c with me now, after all this eating more b/c of my sometimes insatiable hunger, I'm starting to gain weight... extra weight that I don't want (I already gained back a while ago the unhealthy loss of weight from when I first got sick).  I figure it's gotta be from the extra food... my belly's still usually big from inflammation but that's always been the case so it can't be that.  I'm not sure what to do.... I don't need these extra pounds but my body's crying to be fed, but I don't know that I trust it, esp when I just ate an hour before LOL.  And my eating habits are really good, I make almost everything from scratch, natural whole foods, and always eat in the ratios, and I have enough fat in the diet w/ meat, nuts etc for sure to be satisfying.

I have not gained any weight, but I am eating every 2 hours throughout the day. I am someone who can gain weight easily in my past, but I now see that was because of the type of food I was eating..Sugar.

I'm with you guys on the hunger.  I am generally hungry with the unsatisfied feeling after meals and wish I could eat more or have something in between meals.  I have pretty bad constipation and am soo backed up that can't afford to eat more.  I would eat more meals or more food in general but there's no room inside for it.  Weird situation!

Hi Lisa,
Sorry I missed your reply before. To answer your question I have gained weight. It's not a huge amount, and I'm still within a healthy range, but I'm not where I'd like to be. Given that I'm on list 2, and keeping things very strictly in line with teh diet in content and ratios I find this weight gain really worrisome and discouraging.
I keep wondering if the increase in protein (I didn't eat nearly this much meat before) and the increase in butter (which was something I almost never ate before this diet) are the culprits? Beyond that, I'm truly puzzled.
For me, since going on the probiotics my issues with bloating have really decreased -- I have my days, as I'm sure we all do, but my stomach is pretty flat, it's just that I'm all around ... bigger I guess... So I don't think it's just bloating.
This topic came up on another threat as well I plan to bring it up at the next support meeting. Maybe we can all have our minds put at ease by Matia.

Yeah, that'd be great to bring up... she hasn't told me why I'd be gaining weight at this point, only suggested eating less carbs.  Only contributor on my end could be increased portions and/or increased meat (as you said I didn't eat nearly this much before either).
I also wonder what she'd say we do with our insatiable hunger, the kind of hunger when you know you've eaten enough but your body's acting like not... I mean, do we eat b/c since we're not assimilating well we might actually need the extra food/vitamins/minerals?  Do we deny our body's signals?  Ugh.

Well, it has been long time since this one has been posted, but I wonder if anyone asked Matia about the hunger issues even after a big big meai. Since a few weeks , I am always hungry and never get enough. I eat the food on my list--but it seems like there is a huge deep hole in my stomache and everything I eat goes there and my body never understands that I already ate enough, lol.
How do you deal with this, ladies? And what do you eat ? I somehow feel like it is not the food my body wants, it is sth else--but I just don't wanna feel hungry anymore, as it is pretty disturbing , esp while at work..:s
Also, if any of you eat fruits--do you always eat them with protein? And is it OK if we eat a fruit right after a meal?

I KNOW!  I am regularly embarrassed because I'm a petite lady, and people (my parents, friends, family, parents of friends) constantly comment on my abilitiy to eat like a teenage boy.
I have trouble with being prepared food wise, because I always feel like I'm hungry and without food, even though I eat extremely huge portions.  I've been adding avocado and it seems to help some.  I also make sure my lunch has rice and protein and tons of veggies.  My problem is running to the carbs.
I usually eat fruit with yogurt or almonds.

:) Thanks researchnerd. I will try avocado. Do you get organic avocados? I can't afford it always :(
Carb issue is still so confusing for me. When I eat --I get bloated and I avoid eating, then I get weak and also I start craving sugar later on. Also, I feel like my body needs sth warm, sometimes I eat raw veggies with yogurt, or just apple and it bothers me!!!
