Hello,
Has anyone purchased the book? I live in a different state and I am wondering if the book goes into detail about root causes and what the actual content is about? Like all of us we have to be selective about how we apply our funds, many of us are not working. I think this book will provide a connection to the Dr. that will be something I can depend on in times of desperation for hope in addition to this forum. The support here is amazing and I am so grateful to have all you lovely ladies to chat with.
Just off topic and for anyone who is having a rough day, I am 9 months into the crisis and believe unequivocally it is our birthright to experience perfect health. The treatment Matia provides is geared toward this perfect health and is in our future. I have setbacks and days in which I think the only reason I am alive is for my son. Then when I've had 3-4 hrs rest and my bladder is full but I can sit here and post and can say I am not in pain I realize we will get to the finish line.
Love replies so please keep in touch, should I buy the book? Need more info-the $ can pay for herbs, which is more important?

I am also wondering the same thing... I want to get the book, but it is pricy. I would like to know how many people have read it. I am sure it is good, but when money is tight....My daughter is the only thing that keeps me going most days. I know I have to keep going and put a smile on for her, even though this is so hard. I am only a week after seeing Matia, and 6 weeks into the diet.Sometimes I get really scared and worry that I won't be any better for a long time. I want to be able to be a normal mom for my daughter and take her places instead of always just staying home, because it is too hard to go out when you are going this much and so uncomfortable. Thanks for bringing this up.Kelsey
I read the book and found it
I read the book and found it very helpful to understand what is going on. I know others have read the book and have had a hard time understanding the chinese med part of the book. As you know this book was not meant for patients it's ment for someone like Matia who wants to practice. Matia feels that to restore balance in the small intestine restores health in a nut shell. It did have some western lingo in the book explaining things as well. I don't think that you need to know Chinese med to understand the book but it sure does help. If your strapped for cash I think attending the meetings and asking some questions might do you just as good for now. I might check out the book Between heaven and earth or and the web that has no weaver prior to reading Matia's diseratation your public libary may even have them they are common books. IF not they are quite cheep on amazon and when your ready for Matia's book you will have a better grasp for it. I have read her book 4 times before I felt like yes I have it now I can actually have a conversation about it. I have to sit with the book for that tho because my memory is not so hot. The thing to remember is we all got here for different reasons different imbalance from our past. Maybe some of us have been stuggling our whole lives so to compare yourself is not a good thing even though we have some of the same issues.
Matia's book
I bought a copy of Matia's dissertation and found it helpful in understanding her views and approach in treating IC. I also read a book called "The Web That Has No Weaver, Understanding Chinese Medicine." It helped as well.
helpful
I found it very helpful to decide if I was going to go into treatment with Matia but it was very technical. It was not an easy read.
I use it for support and encouragement
The Chinese medicine parts are difficult to understand, but it does explain a lot about possible different causes of IC and there are case studies which I like to read. I tend to use it more for support than anything. Its sits on the table next to my sofa and I often pick it up and skim through the pages. It gives me encouragement more than anything, like this forum does and like the support meeting did (last one was my first). I feel stronger after having browsed it for a short while.

I think reading Matia's dissertation is very helpful and useful during treatment. I've looked through it many times and reread sections while experiencing different symptoms. Her approach makes soo much sense when you go through it and understand the connection between the small intestine and bladder. ~shar
Melsvensen sent me her copy
Melsvensen sent me her copy of Matia's dissertation and I read it a few times and now I am passing it onto another woman I met who is looking into treatment with Matia. I was so appreciative to Melissa and this helped me so much since I am a pharmacist. The first half of the book has general review about IC- most of this I already knew from reading lots of IC literature from the ICA, Dr. Moldwins book etc....
The second half of it has more about her protocol, some of the herbs listed with what they do, 5 case studies, the diet, and info about chinese medicine that I really did not understand due to some of the strange vocabulary. I have refered to it many times when talking to her and she says not to worry about it- some of it needs updating. You might do just as well reading her blogs and searching this web site- great cases too.
The best thing would be to pay it forward and share our copies if we are done with them. I xeroxed a few pages before I sent it off for drug reference. Thanks to Melissa for my best Christmas present! She is my angel!!
Wow
How nice of Melsvensen to do. Now that is a caring Christmas present. I do not have the money right now to get it. But if it would help a lot, I want to try when I can. But if it is something that will just be frusterating right now to my foggy brain, I will pass for now. But I don't know....
PhD dissertation
As Melsvensen said it is not an easy read as it is academic in nature, being a PhD dissertation. It is very different to the Catherine Simone books for example. I found it difficult to read and understand at first as I couldn't concentrate enough but once I was a bit better I found it easier. It convinced me that Matia was the person who could help me and that she knew what she was talking about. There is some great info in there for those interested in understanding the concepts behind the protocol etc. As Carole UK said it is a bit of a bible in its own way.
Thank you Wen57 :)
Wen57, what a great reply! I can't purchase the book at this time but would like to ask if it would be too much trouble for you to scan me some of those copied pages? The connection between the bladder and small intestine is of the most interest to me. I apologize if I am asking too much and a reply of No is totally fine too. I had a really bad night-had a tiny piece of spelt bread for the first time in 4 months (no carbs because it causes spasms and swelling) and thinking my gut had healed with all the probiotics and doing everything perfectly I did not expect a 1x3 centimeter piece of spelt bread to cause the fits and getting up all night with urgency. I am still inflammed today and not understanding how ingesting a tiny carb after 4 months is causing this.If you do have the time to send me those pages my personal email is kathleenkennard@ymail.com. I hope you have a great weekend!AnthonysMom
I can lend
I am happy to lend my copy to someone in need, so long as I get it back when you're done. Just contact me via the email icon.
Matia's Book/ Dissertation
I am a new patient of Matia's and wanted to read her book/dissertation, but her office says its being reprinted right now. Is there anyone that has a copy that I could borrow? It would be greatly appreciated! Also wanted to say how much this website and all of your posts have comforted me in what seems like the darkest moments of my life so far.

Hello,
I'm a fairly new patient. Where can you purchase this book? I couldn't find it listed on the BomaMed site. Also, how much is it?
Thanks,
Denise
