Spring Water?

Hello everyone!

I hope all of you out there are having a good, positive, IC-free Friday! I've finally made my first appt. with Dr. Brizman (not 'til late December) and simply cannot wait. I'm counting down the days. I started following her diet last week and have a question about water.  Does anyone know any recommended Canadian spring water I can buy?  I've looked at the prefered waters on this website and I don't recognize most of the names except Evian, and I think that's the most expensive spring water on the market!

Also, I've read articles cautioning against bottled water. Besides the terrible environmental impact, I've heard that sometimes the plastic can leach through into the water and actually add more toxins to your body.  Do we know Dr. Brizman's feeling on this?

Did changing your water source make a big difference in the way you guys feel? I've changed products and food, but I'm a little reluctant on changing my water habits for the reasons I've mentioned (cost, environment, health hazard, etc.).  May I ask your opinions?

And thanks as well for any Canadian spring water suggestions.  It would be nice in general to make the acquaintance of other Canuck patients of Dr. Brizman. I had a wear a scarf to work today and am feelign my Canadian-ness more than ever! :P

Hi,
I drink Canadian Springs bottled water....I used to drink Brita but switched.  Unfortunately it is in a plastic jug.....I've never seen glass like in California.  I didn't notice a big difference between Dr. Brizman's water and Canadian Springs....but I sure notice a difference between Brita and Canadian Springs.  Now if I take a sip of Brita I can taste chemicals!

Hi Kim, thanks for your reply.
Where in Canada are you from? I'm in Toronto. Canadian Springs is fairly affordable, so I'm glad to hear it's working for you.  I was also looking as ESKA, but it's more pricey. Have you noticed a difference in how you feel drinking spring water (other than the taste)?
On another note, have you had any problems getting Dr. Brizman's herbs and supplements shipped to Canada? Did you have any trouble trying to find her recommended products here? I know if I'll be able to find specialty items anywhere it's in Toronto, I just wanted to know if there were any complications at all with receiving treatment from Dr. Brizman internationally.

I'm from London Ontario, so only a few hours apart.  Matia uses Natren probiotics and I get them ordered in for me through my local health food store....I'm positive there will be a supplier in Toronto for Natren.  As for the herbs....stock up on them when you go see Matia....if you order from her you get nailed by Federal Express for almost $50.00 when they deliver plus shipping from Matia is expensive too....not her fault.  While your in LA buy the Natren from Matia, you get a bigger bottle for the same price as I pay for here.  60 pills vs. 90 pills.  You can pack them in ice and carry them on the flight too!
I noticed a big difference from drinking tap water (filtered through Brita) to drinking Canadian Springs!  Don't forget to cook with it too.  I actually use distilled water for cooking any brand will do.
When you fly out bring your own food and water on the plane....if you tell them at customs that you have an illness they will just send it through the scanner and then you can have it on the plane.
If you need any more help email me and I will share anything I can!  Kim

Thanks Kim,
This is all really great advice.  I'll buy as much as I can from Matia when I'm in LA. I'll get a big jug of distilled water for cooking. I'll also bring my own food on the plane when I go. I'm already a big fan of the zucchini muffins and I think they'd my great plane food.
When you order herbs (with the sucky $50 Fed Ex charge!), how long do those last for? Hopefully I won't have to do that too often!

definitely switch to spring water. I used to mock people  who drank bottled water. I felt like it was so wasteful- now i have to buy cases of poland spring. I still ahte the environmental impact but what can you do? huge difference for me.

Hi, I ordered what she recommended I order when I was there but it didn't turn out to be enough....so I ordered 8 more bottles. I should be done taking them soon. So in four months I've only had to order from Bomamed once. I'm hoping I will be able to get most things from my local health food store!!
Take care Kim

Thanks everyone.
Emily, I may take you up on your offer of advice before my first appointment.  I want to be ready with the answer to every question Dr. Brizman could possibly ask me.
I've switched now to spring water and hopefully it will make the difference for me that it's made for you guys.

The Whole Foods in Toronto on Avenue Road in Yorkville carries Natren probiotics. I was just there on business :-)

That is GREAT news.  I work all of five minutes from there!

As an environmentalist, I also really struggled internally with switching to bottled water. In the end though, I simply couldn't handle the pain caused by filtering my own.
To be as conscious as possible, I have water delivered monthly, in those huge jugs, which are collected and resued several times, before being reused and recycled. I feel a Sigg water bottle with my own spring water before leaving the house.
And then I donate Oceana annually to further assuage my guilt!

Do we have to drink bottled water for life?  Or can we ever just use a water filtration system?
