Fighting a bad flu

Dealing with one of the worst flu's in my life. I think i got it from my husband who just got the flu shot. I know it makes no sense, it's a dead virus...but this used to happen to me every year. I got flu right after the shot. Am i crazy? It's been extra tough now because i have IC now and can't take my regular flu pills or antibiotics to cover the symptoms. I took a day off but went back the next day feeling ok. That was the biggest mistake. I've been in bed, and in great misery since Friday. So restless due to sinus pressure and headache. Just want to chop my head off :) My poor husband is trying to cook for me and take care of me. I used some uncooked garlic in my salad dressing to help me and I think i was ok with it overall. List 3. Having stopped my protocoal, which i was so torn about!!!, but there was no choice...my bladder isn't too happy but to my surprise doing ok. Matia put me on 11 different pills 4X a day. The ZGl is nasty. Has bad after taste too.

Today is my third day, i can finally look at the screen without my head exploding or my eyes watering. I am feeling better today, was able to go to whole foods and grab an echinecea goldenseal to add to my treatment. I lost 2 more pounds, look green, black circles under eye. Hahaha... i look ready for halloween.

I don't know what i would have done without matia. I hope when it goes away, it won't be too bad for my bladder and we can pick up where we left off. To all of you, please take care thru this vicious flu season. Wash your hands, wear a mask, do what it takes to dodge it. I managed it last 7 months, it was my turn now.

You've got a sense of humour - mend quickly.

Sending good thoughts your way. I managed to catch a cold this week and I know that has knocked me for a loop. Mend well and think good thoughts.... think of it this way... at least you know the flu will go away quickly:) Its not fun though.

Thanks girls for your supportive words. I guess i am better if you think i have a sense of humor, cause i was a total cry baby all weekend giving my husband a bit of guilt trip. No wonder he was making my favourite dishes :) I am hanging in there. At least i can doze off and get some little rest now. My throat is pretty severe still. I took the first dose of the echinea goldenseal. I am trying to gargle with salt water. I think that helps with the inflammation a bit.
I had no luck with the office today, maybe Lynn got sick too? I hope not!!! I was trying to avoid emailing Matia back and forth on her instructions.
I am using the Eclectic Institute Echinacea goldenseal. I emailed her to ask if need to open to water? She told me if gelatin, it's ok to swallow, if not open it. I looked at the bottle and it says veggie capsules. I am assuming this is bad for us, since the probiotics are also in veggie capsules and we open them. Do other pills say gelatin on them? Have you looked? Maybe there is another name for it?

Hi Selichan,

I am also take Eclectic Institute goldenseal, and I do have to open the capsule and put it in water (and it is a vegatarian capsule). But I asked her if I could transfer it to gelatin capsules instead of taking it in water (because of the strong taste) and she said that is fine. So I think that the vegatarian capsule is bad and you would have to transfer it to a gelatin capsule.
I ordered mine online and am getting them tomorrow. Yay! Until them I am just dealing with the taste for now.

This is what I ordered:

That's really a great idea Calieve :) I never would have thought of it!!  I am going to order them, too or maybe first check with Gelson's Market. Their pharmacy department carried empty capsules. Just need to make sure they are gelatin. Bad taste would be an understatement.
Last night my husband made himself a nice foamy cappucino, and we had the silliest idea that if i smelled the coffee, i wouldn't taste the nasty drink. You know, how when you can't smell, you don't taste...Well, he was holding his yummie drink to my nose, when i gulped it. Of course, it didn't help!! and it was even worse, but we were creacking up at our own childishness. At least got a laugh out of it.
Are you taking this for flu too? Hope you feel better soon. Did Matia tell you how long to take it for?

Selichan - That's so funny, at least you make it a humorous thing, =). Right now I just plug my nose and down it then eat something before I unplug my nose to try and cover up the taste.
I am not taking it for the flu, I am actually a new patient of Dr. B's and just started her protocol a week ago. Goldenseal is part of my protocol and I take it 3 times a day with water. The taste is so bad so I researched it on this website and another patient said she had also transfered it into gelatin caps. So I emailed Dr. B and asked if it was ok and she said YES! So I am so excited that I can start that tonight!

Calieve, I am happy for you starting treatment with Matia. I totally look up to her with respect and so much appreciation that i couldn't ever express with words. She'll guide you and help you through this journay, I wish you the best of luck and patience and in no time you'll feel amazing.

That's a really good idea about the gelatin caps. When I started treatment I was really repulsed by the bitter taste of the goldenseal, but I have adjusted to it in time. Maybe I will still try those though.....my 8 year old asked me what it tastes like so I let her smell the glass and she said "Mom, I think she has you drinking cricket wings!"....lol... gotta love kids:)

LOL...kids are amazing. I'll use that next time someone asks what it smells like :) I think i am adjusting to them as well, but if they were part of my regular protocoal, i'd definately get the empty capsules. I drink it with less water now, so it's more tolerable. Then treat myself to a spoonful of yogurt to take the edge out :)

I wasn't aware that there were any flu's going around just yet.  There have been a few people with colds.  I had a really nasty flu last year that put me down for 2 months.  I was hoping this year would be mild for flu.

Hi Clueless,
Last year I had a cold almost  every other month and used way too much cold medicine. I was also taking this mushroom immune system booster, what a mistake, i am sure contributed greatly to my IC. I usually get flus later in the year around November, then again by New Years. It's always been like this almost on a schedule. This year i am hoping i will at least have a better bday in november and hopefully enjoy new years eve. Take very good care of yourself.
