Bananas

So I made this great muffin recipe so I would have a little treat for Thanksgiving dessert using approved ingredients for me.  The only thing it called for that wasn't approved was 1 mushed up banana.  I thought....it's 1 banana, I'm on list 4, how bad could it be?  OMG, the muffins are delicious and now I am having awful burning. I am so sad.  Anyone know why are bananas such pain inducers? The recipe didn't even have any sweetener, just banana.  I'm getting really fed up ith all this.

My mom is done--IC free after Matia's treatment (if only it were that easy for me :().  She says bananas are on the never list--along with coconut, soy, sugar etc.
The extremely potassium content is what causes issues, I think.
What about apple sauce instead of bannana?  PS-can you post said recipe?

Hi Reseach Nerd
I just had to say how happy I was to hear that your mum is done with treatment ie her IC is behind her.  I have read alot of her posts when trawling back through the site and wondered how she was doing as had not seen anything from her for such a long time.  Would be wonderful to read her success story on here one day...and yours too of course....
Re Bananas Fly Girl, I asked Matia about these at my first appointment as I used to eat one for breakfast every day, but she said that even after treatment you have to be really careful with them unfortunately I cannot remember why, sory.  However I noticed with the revised lists that guava syrup has been added to list 4 so I wonder if you could use this instead with the muffins?  It would probably be wise to check with Matia but it may be an alternative.

I think you both started treatment around the same time as me, I started around April 2009.I'm feeling a lot better, but still trying to get the urethra burning under control. But I feel it gets harder to keep the eating habits under control once you start to feel better, do you also have difficulties with that? I know it's not good because it might cause a relapse, but I can't help it sometimes ;o) I definitely try to keep out sugar and yeast... I have been eating yeast-free bread since I started the diet but I really don't like the taste anymore, do you have other options? I always get it from the bakery, it is made with spelt wheat, but it is so heavy on my stomach (because it can't rise without the yeast)... What do you eat for lunch?I haven't tried banana yet, but after reading the posts I think I will not try it... Do you like apple paste? I tried it some time ago and found it really good! Vicky

I add in 1 and a half cups of blueberries to these.  My grad school friends are obssessed.  I know you're not into yogurt--but this is cooked, so it might make a difference?

2 cups Bob's Red Mill rice flour2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder1/3 cup butter3/4 cup plain yogurt (organic or hormone-free)1/2 teaspoon sea salt3 tablespoons water.Mix together ingredients well, then knead with hands.  Roll into balls, flatten and bake on a butter-greased pan at 475 degrees for about 15 minutes.

Bananas are high in one or all of the following: tyrosine, tyamine or tryptophan. Foods high in them can casuse problems for ICers. Once the yeast and other bad guys are under control in your body and your bladder is better you can eat them. Even so, they should probably not be eaten every day. (high in natural sugars!)

Thanks, I know about the natural sugars, but I just can't believe they are such pain causers.  The recipe is from Everyday Paleo and I subbed the coconut oil with applesauce, so I suppose I could just use applesauce for the banana too.  Ugh.  What a drag. Happy to hear your Mum is healed though!  Wow, will that day ever come my way?  Not if I keep cheating and eating bananas I suppose.  How long did it take her?

My mom is one of those rule following to the T kinda ladies (unlike myself).  So, despite having IC for like 30 years (on and off her story is interesting, she was able to control it with chiropractics), she was done within a year.
I wish it'd come my way too!!!  I think you and I started about the same time, so I hear you about the treatment getting on your nerves.
I really really really miss spicy food.

When i was on list 1, i remember having burning issues when i ate more than a few cucumbers a day, so Matia told me to reduce them. On list 3 now, i enjoy avocados and i slightly react but overall ok with them.
