Questions on eating a balanced meal and snacks

Forums:

I have been researching the site online and came across a few posts which has made me wonder so I thought I would ask.  How important is it to make sure that our food intake is ¼ protein; ¼ carbs and ½ Veggies?  The reason I ask is because I’m trying to understand the method to this.  I typically have been eating 1/3 carbs, 1/3 veggies and 1/3 protein.  I do recall that I have been on a potato kick lately and eating A LOT of rice crackers.  Could the excess carbs have turned into too much yeast?  I ask because I also read somewhere on this sight that oil of oregano is a yeast killer.   If anyone knows and/or has asked Dr. B, would love to get more details.

What about snacks in between meals?  I’ve been eating up 3-5 rice crackers in the afternoon with nothing else.  Is this OK or do you all eat a total balance snack similar to a full meal?

The oil of oregano, goldenseal and cod liver oil have done wonders in the last 24 hours on my pain with burning.  So the more educated I get on this illness, I hope the less aggravation going forward. Granted, the oil of oregano and goldenseal taste nasty as hell and it burns my lips, I would rather do this than burn down elsewhere…

Thank you.

It is probably slightly different for all of us. I am following the 1/3 protein, carb and veggie proportion, possibly bc I was small to start with and now the same weight when i was 18! When i loose too much weight, it really worries me and i try to add snacks, but never more than a couple of rice cakes or carbs a day. The only time I overdo the carbs is when my mom makes ground beef filled pastry with the spelt flour, then I allow myself more. I do realize though if i do carbs more than veggies that day, i am not as regular in bm. I recently read a post about always having a protein with your snacks and asked Matia about it. She said it depends on the person but she prefers that we mix snacks with always a protein. The easiest for me is to eat stuff with yogurt, now that it's allowed. Before i'd eat hardbroiled eggs. Don't eat carbs alone though, that's a no-no. What list are you on Adriane?

My parents are South American and I grew up eating Ecuadorian empanadas (aka turnovers).  I think I can make these with Kamut flour (I didnt like the taste of spelt).  Do you have the recipe for the dough?
I too have gone down to my teenage weight.  I started at 139lbs in early July and now at 120lbs.  But as my husband says, I'm eating so he isnt worried yet.  I dont want to go clothes shopping but now I'm limited in clothes since they are too big on me.  Matia is aware and she hasnt said she is concerned so I guess its ok.  Matia said I can start list 2 but with the flareup last week, I want to wait awhile and slowly ease into it.  I have eaten avocado and have chamomile tea occasionally but nothing more.  I bought brocollini and it was $$ but now I'm wondering if that is going to bother me...  What list are you on? and when did you start her protocol?

Empanadas? Yumm...I am sure they'll taste great. I got the dough receipe from my mom, hope this will make sense to you, since she's so used to cooking by eye than measures, (which explains why i cant cook:)) but here it goes. She uses a one 22 oz light spelt flour. Mixes half of the flour with 3 full eggs plus 2 egg whites, less than half a stick of butter melted and cooled to room temperature and little extra light olive oil. She mixes them and slowly adds the rest of the flour until the consistency is no Longer sticky and feels like "ear lobe" :) she grabs a walnut sized dough opens it and fills it with a ground beef and onion mixture. Brushes them with rest of egg yolks and bakes them. The only thing i am not sure is if baking powder is allowed so i dont use it, therefore the cookies end up a little dense and dont rise, but i still find them to b such a treat.
I am on list 3 now, 11 months in treatment. I was ok'ed to experiment with list 3 a couple of months now but i had a few set backs,a bad flu and a major flare that i am just adding few things in. List 2 is great, hope you do well with it. I was very happy to add avocados, mash them, add a bit of salt and garlic powder and spread over rice cakes. That helped me stabilize my weight. I went from 120 to 98 pounds. I look so butless in my pants, i prefer wearing tights all summer and winter long. I still dont eat cheese, or drink tea or coffee. I miss black tea. Matia told me i should avoid green tea as it would make me tired. The only black tea i found was a breakfast blend which i reacted to and stopped. Anyways, good luck with the empanadas, let us know how they tun out:)
