Americans With Disabilities Act

Hello everyone.

I have been a patient of Matia's for a little over a year. She has helped me very much, but I still have a long way to go. My main problem is frequency. I can deal with it on a day to day basis, but I will be taking the New York state bar exam in July at the Javitz Center in New York City and I am very nervous that my frequent bathroom breaks will eat into my alloted time and negatively affect my performance. I have heard from people who have taken the exam that the lines for the bathroom are long and that a bathroom trip takes about 15 or 20 minutes (between walking through the convention center and waiting in line). I would really like to sit for the exam without having to wear a diaper.

I want to apply for a non-standard test accomodation (either extra time, or easier access to a bathroom, etc.) but New York State only provides accomodations to people who have qualifying disabilities under the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA). I have no experience with this  --- does anyone  know if IC qualfies under the ADA?

I apologize for posting my question here in general health, but it didn't quite fit under any of the categories.

Thank You!

HiI know that SSI has acknowleged ic as a true disability and that sufferers are eligible for assistance on that score.  I also remember reading a while back that people with ic can obtain medical bracelets which would allow them access to bathrooms and enable them to "cut in line, " I think.  I'm not sure what you would do in this situation, maybe do a little on line research or contact the ICA--I believe it is called that--they have an online site.  They may be of some help?  Not sure.icnot4me
