Guys, I posted before as I havent gone to Matia yet but am trying to stop my eating problems and doing really well on that. Ive been doing some general reading on healing bladder walls etc and was wondering how Matia's treatment works on that because I am really confused about the whole process. Am I right in thinking that the body has to be cleared of bacteria, yeast and toxins first and only then can repair work take place on the bladder lining? Or does the bladder lining start to repair from day one but possibly not, because of all the toxins that have to come out first (through the urine, which irritate the wall)?
Hope noone minds the question, I dont have any other physical problems except my poor old bladder and just would love to know how the lining is healed.
The other thing that confuses me is that I read about this protein that is found in the urine of IC patients only (aniproliferative factor) that apparantly inhibits the cells in the bladder wall and that researchers dont know why its there and where it comes from in the body. If that is the case, how does the lining ever heal so and if that were really true, how come there are people going around with healed bladders.
Hope I am not upsetting or confusing anyone, I am trying to understand all this. FOr me, while I understand the treatment has to go back to the beginning, as I describe it, ie what led us to this, I dont understand how the bladder itself gets healed up and stays that way, after treatment.
Your questions-
Hello again,
There are people on this site that understand all of this so much better than myself. I know that Dr B used to have a dissertation that she wrote available to purchase - I'm not sure that she still does. You could check by contacting her office. I can only tell you what matters to me - Conventional medicine offers no "cures". Nor can they tell you that any of their treatments will definately make you feel better. They'll throw some numbing pills at you, distend your bladder - the list goes on and on. If you mention yeast and bacteria, and it doesn't show on their test results, they'll pooh pooh you. They will not try to balance the whole you.
Like yourself, when I first started treatment, I only throught my bladder or urethra was sick. When I started peeing bubbles I figured that all would be well quickly. Then crap started pouring out vaginally - despite the fact that doctors said that the strange odor, discharge, and abnormal pap smears and cycsts weren't related to bacteria or yeast. Now, odor, discharge, dryness, cyst, are gone - PAP smears have greatly improved. So, now, I'm almost well? Then, pretty soon, junk is pouring out of my nose - one time so acidic that it burnt my fingers, My ears were ringing like crazy, fluid was coming out of them, my face is itching and my eyes are crusted over in the morning, and my sinuses and eyes wanted to pop out. Now, those symptoms have dramatically improved, the swelling in my eardrums, so severe that for years had completely closed at the end of the canal, is wide open. My sinus headaches that I used to take sudaphed for nearly every day, are now short lived. Then, somewhare along the way, I started to hear my intestines gurgle. It dawned on me that I hadn't heard my intestines gurgle for years. I'd spent several years on stomach medication, had gotten off of that when i self treated with Aloe Vera Juice (not a good thing to do) and had forgotten that a tummy should occasionally talk to you. So, I blissfully figured that my tummy was now happy. WRONG! Last week I gave birth to the most painful, nasty smelling, disgusting looking mucous stuff that I've ever seen. Then, the left side of my stomach hurt, then the right side, then my upper stomach had zinging stabbling - Oh, and I was running a low grade fever. The doctors ran their tests, expecting bacteria from water or food poisoning - NOTHING! Thankfully, nearly two weeks later, I feel better.
What I'm rather long windedly saying, is that if you're like most of us on this site, your bladder is only a symptom of your whole body being out of balance - probably starting with your intestines. For whatever reason, they aren't working right - and if they don't work right - the general consenus that I've been able to gleen, is that your immune system isn't working right. This is why the pro-biotics that you would probably be put on, would help repair your gut while the other herbs would clean out the bacteria and the yeast. Then, along with the proper food, including red meat and eggs(used to NEVER eat it - feel so much better when I do) Your body will start to heal and the realization of how truly sick you've become, will probably dawn. You'll start remembering every strange bizaar symptom that has ever happened to you that was fixed by you or some Dr with a quick band aid - leaving you able to ignore looking for the root of all the little problems. You'll realize that all of these things, probably including anxiety and depression, are not normal.
Taz, I'm not into worrying about understanding it - probably because I worry about everything else. I just can't ignore the facts of what my body has done while on this treatment - it's trying to fix itself. While true, it seems like one step forward and a half back, I just can't deny that something strange and beautiful is happening.
Long windely - all my best -

Hi again Taz
First of congradulations on keeping the eating under control. I know how hard it is.
As our IC (yours and mine) was caused by a similar problem I would just like to say how my thoughts on this have changed over the course of my treatment.
I used to think that I had no other symptoms apart from bladder pain but I now realise this wasn't the case. It was just that I didn't know what normal was.
As my treatment has progressed I now realise that actually my intestines were a mess, that my periods weren't normal, it isn't normal to have heart palputations, itchy ears, slight sore throat most of the time, yellow toe nails, brittle finger nails etc. etc.
All these things I have had intermitently over the past few years long before I started to have problems with my bladder. I always put these things down to ageing.
The funny thing is that going through treatment has made a lot of these symptoms return for a while but I have moved on from a lot of them now, and for the first time ever this time my period went virtually unnoticed, no aches at all.
I can't say how the bladder heals but I think it must because mine feels so much better now. It is a very good question though and one I will ask at my next appointment as I would like to know as well.
