Can we take Advil for fevers?

I am dealing with a sinus infection or the flu.  Dr. b had me start GML, ear formula, and goldenseal.  I'm running a temp of 101.5, are we permitted to take Advil?

Ther isn't any reason to "treat" the fever. It doesn't feel good but it is your body 's tool for healing. Rest, drink a lot of water and take the herbs she's giving you.

I think for other pain that you really can't mange, she says Tylenol is better. I had a serious burn in Dec and for the first time in 2.5 years, I took OTC medicine- motrin becuase the burn was so incredibly painful.. It was not worth whatever small pain relief I got. I ended up with a bad flare from it.

I agree with Deir. The fever helps your body fight the infection or flu.  Keep well hydrated and well rested.  There are things Dr Brizman suggests we should have on hand for emergencies like these, so ask her about them during your next appointment.  I would never judge anyone for taking a Tylenol in an emergency, but I think it's best to avoid the conventional treatments if you can.  I still reach for some weleda homeopathic medication when I get really ill and have not had any flares or problems with them. I would rather have Dr Brizmans flu treatments but forget to order them whenever I've placed my past orders.

Hope you recover quickly!

I recall that she would let me take 1 ibuprofen ( terrible aweful stuff for you) when I had super bad menstrual cramps in the beginning of treatment. so maybe really limit your advil to just like one or a half.  I would always check with her b/c ibuprofen is what got me into some bad trouble once upon a time bladder/VV pain.  but 101. 5 is not too bad. Those herbs should make you sweat which might be a good idea to break the fever. what I do when i have the flu stuff - is take those herbs she has you on- and put on all your warm pajamas and get under the blankets and sweat that fever out. I ahve heard that things like advil can drive the infection deeper into the body-I think it suppresses the natural action of the fever and the fever is the body doing its job. As long as you are not reaching levels of above 103 then I think you are ok. Does anyone else agree with this? Those herbs are soooo killer for knocking those infections out.

Is this the first time you have had a flu or sinus infection? (Which was it, BTW?). I suspect it is a healing crisis. Your body is trying to move a lot of toxins out. This is GREAT!!! Dr. B will help you manage it. I  am trying not to look at every symptom I get as something I need to fix. Your body has its wisdom and will respond with rest, patience and gentle coaxing maybe with the herbs Dr. B uses.

My urogyn had me on ibuprofen for 3 days when I had my first ic symptoms. I wish I had never taken it. As others have said, it can really, really aggrevate things.

Because we have IC, we have small intestine bacterial overgrowth (SIBO). I think you know this, but wanted to post it again. This is very serious. I dont want to sound alarmist, but I want to re-iterate this. When the gut is compromised like this, it is very slow to heal. Beneath the imbalance of our gut flora (which in and of itself is hard to re-balance), is the lining of our gut which is comprised of micro-organisms and mucosal tissue. Our mucosal tissue is very damaged. If we have a hope of repairing it and living a symptom-free life, we must to everything in our power to protect and rebuild our delecate gut lining. This means avoiding antibiotics and ibuprofen and other known gut irritants at ALL costs. Tylenol is a last resort as that puts a huge strain on the liver. Even many western docs advise using this in moderation.
Glad you are feeling better!

If we don't excel at health, the only other option is disease.

Hi Mimi,
i don't think it's a sinus infection. I think I caught what my daughter has just gotten over, which is viral.  It's starts out like a flu then develops into a congested cough for 2-3 weeks.  I am very happy that I am tolerating the herbs at the dose Dr. B recommends, which is a huge milestone and tells me that my body is healing.  I am trying to rest, but I'm not very good at sitting still.  I am a busy bee:). Mimi I appreciate you reiterating SIBO with IC.  I was not familiar with the connection until I joined the forum.  I have realized very much that the gut is the root of this disease, which has been made very apparent by all the issues I've had wit my tongue; swelling at minimal herb doses, wart-like bumps towards the back of the tongue:( gross!  These issues are lessening with treatment.  I'm working a getting thru this illness with no western medication.  This would be a first for me. I'm learning.  It's been a little rough since I've been dealing with more illness than bladder related pain, but that's ok because this too shall pass.

Hello,
Pretty sure that everybody has wart like bumps at the back of their tongue - when I freaked out about them - my Dr. and dentist told me that they were taste buds

I may actually have a sinus infection.  The pressure in my head is intense and I'm still running a low grade fever today.

Email dr. B about your symptoms. I just had a ssinus infection that she helped me get through. I was feeling much better by the 2nd day I was on goldenseal, ear, gml. Infection is all gone and I'm back to my normal protocol. Hope you feel better soon!

Amina thank you.  I wish mine ended as quickly as yours did.  Dr. b just added formula 48, 49, and zgl to the ear, GML, and goldenseal because it went to my chest.  I'm hoping things will begin to move much faster.
