Doggie UTI HELP!

Hey everyone,

I suspect that my puppy- he's a mini dachsund might have a UTI. I'm taking him to the vet tomorrow and if it turns out I'm right I know they are going to give him antibiotics. I don't think that there is any holistic vets where I live. If antibiotics are not safe for me than I know they aren't safe for him either! Has anyone dealt this before and what did you do for your pet? Is there something I can give him as an alternative that will knock out the problem? I see from online alot of dog owners struggling with what appears to be dog IC as a result of long term and reincurrent infections treated with  antibiotics!  My husband is insisting we give him antibiotics. I don't know what to do! Any advice? If they give him antibiotics should I give him some of my probiotics after he finishes the course? HELP! Thank you!

I never take the RX from the vet. I get the dignosis and then get a natural treatment.
you can have your dr retest him after the corse is done.

also you might try changing your dogs food. We domesticated these animals and the dry food is not what they would eat if it were not for us. YOu might invest in some raw foods for your dog at least mix it in.

Why don't use ask Matia? I don't know whether she will know but its worth asking.I think she mentioned previously she has a cat so may know something about treating animals holistically. In UK you can buy probiotics specially for dogs - I don't know if its advisable to give them probiotics for humans - I would guess its not a good idea.

There is a probiotic made especially for dogs & cats. It's made by Jarrow and is called petdophilus. I get it at my local natural food store. http://www.jarrow.com/product-145. Carol
