Anyone with a history of ear problems have this come up during treatment? I feel like my hearing ability has decreased, and my 6 month check ups (i had a serious set of surgeries as a kid and need my ears checked often); I'm always told my ear drums are retracted. I'm about to go for a hearing test and I'm so nervous. This regression has been going on for me for over 2 years.
Yes
When this illness started for me, my hearing went out a couple of days, and I thought that was strange. It was the first time that had happened.
Then, occassionally, my inner ear would begin to hurt. It would feel like an earache, but only affect the membranes inside and not the eardrum.
I searched the Internet for this, and the only thing I could tie all of the symptoms to were some form of the Herpes virus, like Shingles or something, but since I've had those tests and they were negative, it doesn't appear that was the cause for me.
But I have had some symptoms that felt almost viral.
clarify
To clarify - my hearing went out in one ear a couple of times, but didn't last that long.
Ears
Hello Ms Nerd.
Your timing is a bit ironic. Last night I felt like I had an ear ache. I haven't had an earache since I was 14. I never went to the doctor for it, and it eventually cleared up on its own. I was kind of wondering if the original infection was working it's way out.
My ears and sinuses, before I started treatment. Were TERRIBLE. My ear canals were so swolen that they were nearly closed at the end of the canal. So, yes, I too have had ear problems.

Seems to be part and parcel
Seems to be part and parcel of this goddam disease. I've had IC for 7 years and after catching what i think was swine flu 2 years ago my hearing has altered and my ears glug and occasionally block and there's the tinnitis of course! I find that although when tested my hearing is within reasonable limits, peoples voices sound tinny and it's uncomfortable to talk on the phone for long. Can't wait for the ear and head congestion to bugger off for good!
