What is the difference between a mammogram and an ultrasound? I've had an ultrasound done on other parts of my body, but not the breasts.
I was reading the posts from Bonnie, cprince, and flygirlsam about breast pain and read that someone had an ultrasound done. I am planning to get a mammogram done just to make sure everything is okay. The doctor said it probably is but since this is "new" for me, it would be good to get it checked out. It's been a few years since I've had a mammogram done.

Hello Lisa,
The main difference between ultra sound and mammograms is mammograms is an x-ray so exposed to low dose of radiation where ultrasound just bounces sound waves off tissues to view the organs/tissues and has no known risks and no exposure to radiation. Hope that helps clarify a little!
