i posted before about my little sister who indeed is showing signs of full blown IC. When I went to the Uro- they gave me a prescription for pyridium. Of course I never used it because I started seeing Dr B. My question is- my sis is going to try to save up to go to CA but this will be hard for her- in the meantime- is pyridium ok to use every now and then for pain? Of course she will do the diet too but it could be 6 months to a year before she get to CA. She has no insurance, low paying job and debt. I am trying to help her without giving her all the money (which I really don't have to give) I want her to make the serious investment to see Matia as well because I think it will help her stick to this hard regime but if there is something to help with pain during the process... She can't take narcotics because she is a recovering alcoholic. Sigh..... when it rains it pours. :(

I am a pharmacist and have used Pyridium. You can get the same thing---Azo over the counter. It worked great when I had a UTI years ago. For IC it helped a little but over time I realized it really did not do much. It is supposed to numb the urinary tract. It turns your urine orange. Long term use is not recommended. I used a lot of it for awhile. It really can't hurt you but it is not recommended long term because it can mask signs of a UTI. Doctors are trained to order small quanites at a time. My doctor gave me an unlimited prescription because I am a pharmacist. It was cheaper to get that way. I got generic....just as good.
