We know we're to always avoid this food like the plague but I wondered how good soya is for everyone else? I know it has to go through alot of processes before it's edible but it's in so many foods now as a thickening/bulking agent and as a substitute for meat or for those with milk intolerance. My mother is always pushed to eat & drink soya products due to her allergies but I just wonder how good this is for her?
There is a big difference
There is a big difference between most soy that is consumed these days and traditional fermented soy like tempeh, miso. The fermentation breaks down the damaging phytates. Soymilk and things like Textured Vegetable Protein (ugh! I used to buy that thinking I was so healthy!!!!) are NOT healthy for anyone (at least that is my opinion! LOL) Soy formula has been implicated in many issues in babies as well. So again I think it comes back to real, whole, traditional foods vs processed junk foods.
one of the first times I
one of the first times I noticed my bladder and stomach feeling bloated and achy was when I was eating a lot of soy in college. I made soy chai's like no other and ate tofu in salads and at these bars called think thin bars. I don't think processed soy is good for anyone, but matia talks about fermented soy being ok at the end...but I am not sure when I just read a post of hers awhile back
Interesting stuff - thanks
