I want to use supplements to help my achieve muscle growth and weight loss.  seems that whey protein and other pre and post workout supplemenmts cause IC pain. Is there any options that I can use to achieve my physical goals by taking different types of supplememnts?

Hey! Welcome! I am assuming you are not a patient of Matia Brizman but you suffer from IC? ok I'll try to answer your question best I know how-part of the reason that I think supplements cause IC pain- is because these things can incite more inflammation in an area that is already inflamed. Isn't whey a gluten or wheat product? Alot  of IC patients do not tolerate gluten and certainly some nutrients/ vitamins in supplental (and food form too) can be irritating to the raw tissue of the bladder/pelvid musicles. I have lost alot of weight in being on this IC diet in addition to that IC is more of a imbalence with the small/large intestine where the GI tract is not functioning at a good level hence it does not absorb nutrients effeciently and can cause weight loss  ( maybe also weight gain? or could that just be water retention?- not sure) and difficulty in keeping a good weight on. at first. As you go through treatment the body gets more balenced in weight scenarios. The only thing Iknow to say / suggest is to go through Matia's program to get healthy- and then when your body can tolerate it and under her guidance you may find you are able to acheive a fit body through weight training( well you can stillexercise etc and wirght train all throughout treatment) also you eat TONS of protein on the diet maybe that will help your muscle tissue growth?  and alsomay lose weight simply through the super healthy diet you will be on and all the habits you pick up. Your GI tract will absorb foods efficiently and many report weight loss and higher levels of energy and strength - improved muscle tone and just overall improved body systems- nervous, circulation etc Any supplement you take is likely to cause pain if you have IC and may make your IC worse. Once you have developed IC - the body is pretty imbalenced to have that condition present but it is not a hopeless situation. I wish I knew of a better way but byI know from my own experience that taking supplements when you ahve Ic you risk further irratating the area. I think it is most likely incapable of handling these kinds of supplements at this time. Hope this is helpful. Thanks - Mary

thanks HB, i actually am a patient of Matia since 2007, but live in Charlotte NC now and only have phone interviews.  I was also wondering if the Herbs Matia has on the BOMAHERBS site are IC compatible?  Any idea??

As far as I know whey is a protein found in milk and has no gluten. I also am not aware of whey having a direct effect to IC but I could be totally wrong, I always thought that it had to do with the fact that many ICers are not able to digest the dairy and or milk by products because of the fact the intestines are so compromised. There are some protein powders and supplements made from egg whites, maybe that might be an option??

Rex,I'm not sure I understand you- let's see- you are asking if the herbs that are on the BOMAHERBS site are IC compatable? i don't know where you are in treatment - but ALWAYS ask Matia before taking another herb even if its on the BOMAHERB site. It's all an individual situation and Matia could say for sure what is safe for someone with IC. I'm sure some of them are just fine if you are in later stages of treatment but ask ask ask before doing anything. thanks!Mary
