I was just curious if anyone is working while going through this treatment? I'm planning on starting soon and I'm worried about being able to work.

Thanks,Michelle

Hello, yes, I have worked while in treatment.  Some days are better than others.  I used to be a teacher and then I stayed home with my kids... this is way before I had IC.  After having my daughter I got IC.  I started with Matia in March of 2006 and had the confidence to get a part time job at the Gap in October of 07.  I now work as a barista for Starbucks and have very little problem.  I make sure that I don't eat anything that is going to flare me and keep well hydrated.  As far as me going back to teaching, i don't know... There is a running joke about the teacher's bladder because they don't get to go to the bathroom when they want/need to. Sometimes when I am working and there is a line to the door, I will get really urgey but I try and distract myself and that usually works.  I think other people go to the bathroom at work just as much as we do, but I think as ICers, we are just more self conscious about it.  I tell myself, who cares what others think?  If we had IBS, it would be totally acceptable to run to the bathroom because it is more accepted as a medical condition...

I have worked full-time during treatment.  Its definately been a challenge at times.  My job can be stressful, and I often have to sit through appointments for hours.   Some companies allow you to take a medical leave...i came pretty close to doing this a few times a while ago.  My Dr. even agreed to fill out the paperwork.  I was never thrilled with the idea though and luckly I'd always pull through get a little better just before.

I have been working...some long days and I have to drive 1 hour or more to some of my accounts.  I eat lots of veggies on the drive and drink water so I have to go to the bathroom pretty bad when I arrive.  I do pretty well except in the afternoons my pain usually gets worse from 2-6 pm.  It is a big relief to get in the car and eat and drink on the way home because that usually helps.  If I am really bad I take a pinch of baking soda to survive the drive.   I sometimes take a pyridium because that helps too, but I think the water is what helps the most.  I always have celery and lettuce with me and that keeps me going and has a lot of water in it.  Since I work, I take the probiotics in the morning and evening so I don't have to pack ice packs to keep them cold.  I would like to ask Matia if this is ok, but with all the lunch and water I am hauling in, it is just easier.  When I first started her herbs tho I took a few days off and did it over a weekend.  That was a good idea because my first 5 days I was pretty sick and very fatigued.  I could hardly sit up.  Now  (2 months in) I am stronger and used to the meds.  I think it would be very difficult to work if you had to be a checker or some job that you could not leave your area, and could not get to the bathroom when you needed to.  I am lucky that I mostly do computer work, paper work, education, and a few meetings that are not very long.

You don't have to keep your probiotics for the day cold. They will not loose potency for that short amt of time.
I am hoping to open my day spa soon right now I am selling art to get my spa open Grand opening in the village of the arts as soon as I get the cash. LOL. It will be nice to work from home.
I know others do things such as babysit, cleaning homes I think if you clean bring natural things to clean with I personally think that job would be hard.
