A while back I had a yeast infection so crazy bad my gynecologist said it was the worst she had seen.  My bladder was unhappy and I walked around with a skirt and no undies, I didn't freakin care.  I had to put ice packs on my girl parts.  Matia was able to get that stuff under control in about three days...
Here are my tips:
1. Ice pack your girl parts when you can
2. drink lots of water
3. obviously tell Matia
4. be SUPER strict with your diet cutting out as much refined stuff as possible
5. not to be Polyanna, but embrace your yeast infection as a gift because it is actually stuff coming out of you that doesn't belong there.  If you tell yourself this is good and I am glad, you can actually reduce your pain levels.  Many well documented studies of people telling themselves that the pain is not really that bad and they actually perceive pain to be less...
"Previous studies on the other hand, provide us with clues to psychologically induced pain. For instance, Seligman and Buchanan at the University of Pennsylvania, found that those who were psychologically distressed had higher levels of chronic pain than those who were less distressed (5). Such findings would suggest that one's mind can influence the receptivity to pain. Perhaps the mind-body/brain problem, how mental processes affect the physical, is a similar way of saying that the mind controls the spinal gate. Perhaps the more one is in control of his pain, the less pain he has because his conscious mind communicates with the nervous system to close the gate. The hypnosis study, however, refutes the notion that the mind has power over pain since the subjects were unconscious while perceiving pain. Science has observed and supported the theory that the brain is involved in receptivity and activation of pain or the perception of pain, and that in fact may suppress pain. Indeed however, the power of positive thinking is more accepted, and supports the mind-body connection and is seemingly demonstrative of being in control of one's ability to perceive or not perceive pain. Alas, there is no evidence that the mind controls the opening and closing of this spinal cord gate."
So what I am saying here is NOT that our pain is psychosomatic, but at least for me, I have gotten really depressed when I go through die off / pain.  When I finally accepted it as good and normal, my pain seemed to lessen...And you are absolutely in control of your pain... !  You are going on a diet and herbal regimen that is getting rid of bad stuff and sometimes, as we all know, getting rid of ANYTHING can be painful...
Good luck sister!

Hey, just thought of something my husband reminds me of... He said to me while I had my yeast infection, "regardless of whether or not you had IC, if you didn't have IC, the yeast infection would still be painful"  My gynecologist pretty much confirmed this... So remember you are a human first susceptable to feeling the pain of an infection just like anyone else regardless of the IC.  I have to tell myself that, it makes me feel more normal!
Peace!

Um, yes, I think I was... I think the "a lot" part has to do with the poor little urethra is getting pinched shut because of the inflammation because of the swelling down there... REMEMBER... I would be more worried if there was no inflammation... Your body is doing what it need to do to get rid of the yeast, inflammation is just one way your body kills it... Fever is another way your body uses inflammation to get rid of infection... Soo... hooray for you!  Your body has many things it is doing that are normal and healthy, just stinks to have to go through!  Whoo hoo!

For me, these things seem to help the pain.1. deep slow breathing (if you ever had yoga) inhale to 8 hold 7, exhale 6 hold 5.  You can change the numbers to your preference.  2. water3. celery and letttuce and protein4. lamaze techniques such at rubbing your hands together to stimulate your finger tips and block the pain to the brain.  5. Music (I like you tube videos of Adam Lambert- he has such a good voice and is so cute-  I know....lol)6. TV for distraction7. getting off your bottom- laying down8 getting air down there...cooling it down.  9. doing pelvic relaxation- really concentrating on relaxing the muscles. Jaw, face and eyes too.  10. Prayer... i like the rosary.  It also helps to pray for others.  11. yoga body twists, down dog, childs pose, sitting with your feet together and knees out to stretch the inner thighs. 12. getting on this web site and reading and sharing.

Great pain-relief ideas. (I love that this place is such a rich forum for loving support.)
For muscle relaxing, I second that about jaw relaxation... it really makes SUCH a difference and most people don't realize they're clenching it and how it contributes to overall body tension which increases pain... even if you just relax your jaw/mouth, your tension elsewhere eases, have read tons on it w/ regard to easing childbirth.  For yoga, I'm finding that down dog shifts gravity in a unique way that takes the pressure & heaviness out of my bladder and brings the pain down too, while I'm doing it tho, not long-term.
(And a little Adam Lambert never hurt anyone  ;-)
